Leica Liker: # 5 GABI BEN-AVRAHAM, Tel Aviv Street Photographer

Leica Liker: # 5 GABI BEN-AVRAHAM, Tel Aviv Street Photographer | Photography | Scoop.it

Leica Liker is pleased to have Gabi Ben-Avraham, as our #5 guest.

Social Media has enabled everyone to connect with others to share common interests. That’s how I have been able to see a lot of amazing photographs and ‘meet’ wonderful photographers. But as you know, there is no filter. Everything is game. What you get together with the good is quite a lot of bad. Two sides of the coin.

What to see at Les Rencontres d’Arles –

What to see at Les Rencontres d’Arles – | Photography | Scoop.it

As the 50th anniversary of Les Rencontres d’Arles gets underway, BJP-online presents a round-up of exhibitions not to miss

50 years ago, photographer Lucien Clergue, writer Michel Tournier and art historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette organised a small photography festival in the town hall of  Arles – a city in the Provence region of France. There were three exhibitions – a group show tracing the history of photography, alongside work by Gjon Mili and Edward Weston.

This year, Les Rencontres d’Arles, the largest photography festival in the world, celebrates its 50th anniversary with 50 exhibitions. While some shows reflect on the festival’s rich history – a recreation of Edward Weston’s 1969 exhibition, for example – others embody its founding spirit, championing emerging talent and new work by internationally respected artists.

Below, BJP-online presents a selection of artists and exhibitions not to miss.

Framing Time: Guy Tillim's African Street Photography | by Carole Naggar | NYR Daily

Framing Time: Guy Tillim's African Street Photography | by Carole Naggar | NYR Daily | Photography | Scoop.it
While in the tradition of Henri Cartier-Bresson, the image was more about the photographer’s control of the frame, in Guy Tillim’s photographs of African cities it seems as if the subjects have been given a freer rein. Tillim has never believed that one frame can capture the essence of a situation. For him, all moments could be decisive. In these photographs, exhibited in “Museum of the Revolution,” at the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, time neither seems to be racing forward, as in a film, nor does it feel suspended as in a single photograph. Tillim’s photo-sequences are closer to reproducing memory with its rifts, loops, gaps, hiccups and jolts. The images carry a sense of dynamism, yet uncertainty, an ambiguous feeling that maybe reflects a larger question about a continent’s future.
