Curation as a tool for teaching and learning

What is curation anyway, and how can it be used as a tool for student and teacher learning? This essay will investigate what curation is and the different contexts it is used in. Why is it important; who are the curators, what motivates them and what makes a great curator? What processes and tools are used for curation and what digital literacies are required for successful curation? It will conclude with an investigation into ways teachers can use curation both with and for their students and as a tool for their own professional learning and a brief look at some curation tools.

Analyze and Improve Your Writing Skills Online With Slick Write

Analyze and Improve Your Writing Skills Online With Slick Write | Pedagogy and Theories | Scoop.it

"Even the best writers from among us are prone to the odd mistake. Slick Write is an online tool which helps to correct and even improve your writing on a number of levels.

"Slick Write enables you to evaluate the stylistic features and potential flaws of your work, as well as giving you the ability to identify spelling errors and grammatical mistakes. Interestingly, the tool gives you an insight into the structure of your content, breaking up paragraphs and sentences in a unique, informative way.

"You can analyse the flow of your work, and assess some of the statistics which Slick Write provides for you. When using all the features in unison, it becomes relatively easy to turn an average piece of text, and turn it into a literary masterpiece.

Tapping Into the Potential of Games and Uninhibited Play for Learning

Tapping Into the Potential of Games and Uninhibited Play for Learning | Pedagogy and Theories | Scoop.it
In the classroom, fiero -- excitement that gamers experience when they overcome challenges -- makes students see that they're empowered players in their own education. They're released into the exciting adventure that learning can be. Without the intrinsic motivating power of fiero, however, gamification becomes nothing more than semantic spin: a language game in which a letter-based grade system is replaced by a points-based reward system. In these cases, gamification does little to address the shortcomings of a system that relies on high-stakes testing.

Educators Need to be 21st Century Learners Too… | Pedagogy and Theories | Scoop.it

We expect our children to develop these skills. We integrate these skills in our every day lessons so that our students can grow and expand their knowledge. We create spaces so that our students can create and collaborate, whether it is a physical space or a virtual space. We expect our students to be good digital citizens, using devices, programs, and tools responsibly. We want our students to ask questions and explore for answers. We expect our students to learn, grow, and then reflect on that learning.
