It seems that some people consider the removal of a waste bin an example of some sort of achievement……? Thanks to a heads-up-tweet from WerringtonBlogger – local LIB DEM ward councillor, Darren Fower says he has now reported the issue of a missing bin from Cuckoos Hollow to Peterborough City Council.

Commenting, Darren said:

“Hardly something to be proud of is it? Damaging an inane item like a waste bin, makes you wonder just how drunk or intoxicated the person or persons were, to make them think this was a challenge worth undertaking?

Peterborough residents of working age could end up paying hundreds of pounds extra each year as they bear the brunt of massive cuts which could see council tax benefits slashed by up to 44 per cent.

A local mum has spoken with the local newspaper to "....hit out at a rise of almost 100 per cent in return fares for some children going by bus to Arthur Mellows Village College in Glinton."

According to the report, return tickets have risen from £2.50 to £4.70 for youngsters using the Kimes Route 71 service from Queensgate to the college, which goes via Dogsthorpe, Paston Ridings, Gunthorpe and Werrington.

Other prioce rises include £2.50 for a single, with a discount rate for children aged under 14 at £1.75 single and £3.30 return.

This would mean someone in a band A property who has their entire council tax bill paid for them currently would have to pay £264 a year should it rise by 35 per cent from April.

It will affect those claiming the benefit because they are on either income-based jobseekers’ allowance, income support, income-based employment allowance or disability allowances.

This could rise to 44 per cent if the public decides those on disability allowances should be protected from the cuts.

A Fletton pressure group which submitted a dossier of complaints about a controversial flats development has called on Peterborough City Council leader Councillor Marco Cereste to be investigated.

Fair Play For Fletton was set up in 2006 to oppose Heritage Homes Development’s plans to build 14 flats on the site of 157 to 161 Fletton Avenue, Fletton.

A protracted battle for planning permission was finally won by the developers in September 2010, when they received planning permission from Peterborough City Council at the fifth time of asking.

Trading standards bosses are warning residents from Peterborough to be vigilant after receiving complaints about scam phone calls.

People are being urged to take care when giving out personal information in response to unsolicited phone calls by the team from Peterborough City Council.

Recent examples of scam phone calls that have been reported are offers to sell electricity saving devices, which not only do not work, but are also dangerous; callers requiring bank details to claim a fictional £1,000 pension bonus and callers claiming that they are working for Microsoft, who say that they have detected a fault on your computer and request a fee to fix it.
