This book presents a series of empirically based case studies conducted by social change scholars from Asia-Pacific, showcasing the latest social marketing approaches geared at improving societal well-being in the region. Cutting across cultural perspectives, the contents gather ideas on social marketing campaigns and strategies from around the region and use these case studies as a platform to address concomitant challenges in employing marketing tools to positively change social behaviour.
Community-based social marketing (CBSM) offers a pragmatic five-step approach to developing a program that fosters sustainable behaviour. However, how the CBSM theoretical framework has been implemented into practice remains largely under-evaluated. To help address this gap, Lynes et al. developed 21 benchmarks to assess CBSM programs. This research builds upon these benchmarks by using both the benchmarks and additional assessment criteria to assess five Canadian programs that have used CBSM principles.
The National Occupational Standards system in the UK is a government supported process for setting out what knowledge and skills professionals working in Social Marketing should be able to demonstrate. The standards can be used to develop job descriptions, assess candidates and agencies competence.
This is a significant contribution to the professionalisation of social marketing. These standards can be copied and customised for different country context and will help to further develop social marketing practice.
