I often see writers equating “nudging” with behavioral economics.  It’s as if nudging is the essence of behavioral economics.  As much as I respect the nudging concept and its contributions, behavioral marketing calls for a larger scheme than nudging.  That scheme is social marketing.

This paper makes the case for immediate planning for a COVID-19 vaccination uptake strategy in advance of vaccine availability for two reasons: first, the need to build a consensus about the order in which groups of the population will get access to the vaccine; second, to reduce any fear and concerns that exist in relation to vaccination and to create demand for vaccines. A key part of this strategy is to counter the anti-vaccination movement that is already promoting hesitancy and resistance. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a tsunami of misinformation and conspiracy theories that have the potential to reduce vaccine uptake.

L’industria del tabacco si rivolge ai ragazzi attraverso i social media e paga gli inluencer per promuovere le sigarette elettroniche su Istagram o TicTok eludendo le leggi sulla pubblicità che proteggono i giovani.

Il progetto si chiama «Start for life» ed è stato sperimentato in Inghilterra dove il tasso di allattamento al seno è tra i più bassi del mondo. Il 75% delle donne inizia ad allattare quando nasce il bambino, purtroppo al sesto mese la percentuale scende al 25%. Pe affrontare il problema il Sistema Sanitario Inglese ha sperimentato un programma di sostegno all’allattamento che per la prima volta usa l’assistente vocale Alexa.
