The study is concerning as BPA is a known endocrine disruptor, meaning it is capable of scrambling hormone signals, and has been linked to cancer, diabetes and infertility. In-utero BPA exposure has been shown to derail the normal growth of the brain and other organs and manifest later in life as early puberty or an increase in anxiety-related behaviors or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Some replacements have been tied to similar issues including obesity and reproductive problems. The new study linked BPAF concentrations in cord plasma with both premature birth and low birth weight.

Strategic Social Marketing: For Behaviour and Social Change - di Jeff French & Ross Gordon

Strategic Social Marketing: For Behaviour and Social Change - di Jeff French & Ross Gordon | Italian Social Marketing Network - Newsletter 177 | Scoop.it

The authors explore the reasons why social marketing should be an integral component of all social programme design and delivery when looking to achieve social good. They comprehensively explain the nature and application of social marketing; reconceptualising ‘value’, ‘systems thinking’, ‘the social marketing intervention mix’, and ‘critical social marketing’, in the social context. They then lay out strategy, plans, frameworks and tactics that policymakers, practitioners, students and indeed any social change agents can use to effect change for social good.

The pandemic is emptying call centers. AI chatbots are swooping in – MIT Technology Review | Italian Social Marketing Network - Newsletter 177 | Scoop.it

Covid-19 is accelerating job losses in an industry that was already automating work at a rapid pace. While call centers have long been a frontier of workplace automation, the pandemic has accelerated the process. Organizations under pressure are more willing to try new tools. AI firms keen to take advantage are sweetening the incentives. Over the last few years, advances in natural-language processing have also dramatically improved on the clunky automated call systems of the past. The newest generation of chatbots and voice-based agents are easier to build, faster to deploy, and more responsive to user inquiries. Once adopted, in other words, these systems will likely be here to stay, proving their value through their ease of use and affordability.

Nearly six in ten (58%) Americans are now either “Alarmed” or “Concerned” about global warming. From 2014 to 2019, the proportion of “Alarmed” nearly tripled.

Our prior research has categorized Americans into six groups – Global Warming’s Six Americas – based on their climate change beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. The “Alarmed” are the most worried about global warming and the most supportive of strong action to reduce carbon pollution. In contrast, the “Dismissive” do not think global warming is happening or human-caused and strongly oppose climate action.

Tweet for Behavior Change: Using Social Media for the Dissemination of Public Health Messages

Tweet for Behavior Change: Using Social Media for the Dissemination of Public Health Messages | Italian Social Marketing Network - Newsletter 177 | Scoop.it

Background

Social media public health campaigns have the advantage of tailored messaging at low cost and large reach, but little is known about what would determine their feasibility as tools for inducing attitude and behavior change.

Objective

The aim of this study was to test the feasibility of designing, implementing, and evaluating a social media–enabled intervention for skin cancer prevention.

Conclusions

Social media–disseminated public health messages reached more than 23% of the Northern Ireland population. A Web-based survey suggested that the campaign might have contributed to improved knowledge and attitudes toward skin cancer among the target population. ..... Social media is an inexpensive, effective method for delivering public health messages. However, existing and traditional process evaluation methods may not be suitable for social media.
