"Judge Richard G. Neiss issued an order Thursday granting a temporary injunction to block enforcement of the laws."

Neubauer asks whether Hagedorn can be fair | News From Around the Web: WEAC | Scoop.it

"State Supreme Court candidate Lisa Neubauer noted that her opponent Brian Hagedorn wrote extensively about his conservative views on constitutional issues on a blog more than a decade ago and was former Governor Scott Walker's top lawyer when he declined to defend a state law that gave gay couples some of the rights of married people."

"It's not just writings," Neubauer said. "It's actions and it’s actions year after year after year and the voters need to look at that and say can they trust that this person will be fair, impartial and independent or will they have an agenda, an ideology, a thumb on the scale?”

Trump administration's proposed budget would again cut education funding

Trump administration's proposed budget would again cut education funding | News From Around the Web: WEAC | Scoop.it

"On Monday, Donald Trump’s administration released its budget proposal for the 2020 fiscal year, and the plan isn’t pretty for the Education Department. The proposal requests a roughly $7.1 billion cut in funding for the department compared with 2019, which represents a 10 percent decrease in its budget. The proposed cut is unlikely to go anywhere; like years past, Congress is expected to disregard it for the most part. Instead, more than anything, the proposal is an exposition of the administration’s philosophy on education."

A rise in depression among teens and young adults could be linked to social media use

A rise in depression among teens and young adults could be linked to social media use | News From Around the Web: WEAC | Scoop.it

It's like "taking what happens in typical adolescent development and putting it on steroids," says clinical child psychologist Mary Fristad with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University.

For example, as opposed to "going to school with 'meh' hair suddenly there's a picture of you with 'meh' hair. Everybody's going to see it, can comment on it, make fun of you," she says. These experiences resonate enormously during adolescence and can deeply affect teen's confidence and sense of self.
