Pandora reportedly seventh top-grossing iOS app of 2018 - Music Ally | New Music Industry | Scoop.it
Music-streaming service Pandora was the seventh top-grossing iOS app of 2018, despite the fact that it’s only available in North America.
Kendall Morgan's comment, July 28, 2019 9:05 PM
Pandora was the 7th top-grossing iOS app of 2018, despite the fact that it’s only available in North America. That’s significant considering it’s beating out Apple and Spotify. It shows that there is still competition in the streaming wars.
I believe the source is reliable. It has authority, objectivity, accuracy and currency.
Musically.com is a major source for audio industry professionals, with good reliable content.
Mason Newcomb's curator insight, December 17, 2019 5:03 PM
Although it is only a radio service and you are not choosing exactly what songs you want to listen to, Pandora being the 7th top grossing application is a perfect example for this research. We used to have to buy CDs or listen to the radio, and whatever we got to listen to we had to listen to it. Now, you can create your own personalized radio!

Frank Harris on how Jason Derulo reinvented himself on TikTok - and the keys to building a billion dollar brand
Yazmin Perez's curator insight, September 19, 4:15 PM
Frank Harris describes how TikTok change the Music Industry for the better for but did it help other artists too?

*This article shows Frank Harris talked about how Jason Derulo reinvented himself on the app TikTok. He demonstrates Jason Derulo's back story of his career in the music industry and how he struggled to get a record label to sing them or work with them. After that, an app called TikTok became popular, and Jason Derulo started to gain fame again. So this article describes how TikTok changes a person's career in minutes. I felt this was true because I've seen in with favorite artists their indie, and out of nowhere, TikTok discovers them, and they become an overnight success which is great for the music industry. But Also, many artists think TikTok was bad for their platform and did not change for the good.
Wanya Cofield's curator insight, September 19, 5:36 PM
Frank Harris has been Jason Derulos manager for over 18 years. With 18 months (about 1 and a half years) without a deal Harris suggested that Derulo post more on TikTok to build his brand. With already a couple hundred thousand followers Derulo became consistent on TikTok and managed to have 4 different songs on 4 different labels go number 1. Eventually landing him a deal with Atlantic record we are sure to hear more from him soon. TikTok today has changed music on how its consumed to listeners now. If you are an independent artist with motivation and creativity, you are sure to make something of yourself.
Reaunn Browne's curator insight, September 19, 11:45 PM
TikTok is definitely the new wave for musicians and artist, creating a dance or just previewing your new track. TikTok has brought back many artist and entertainers into the light by rebranding themselves and showing a side of them that people never really seen or knew about. I feel like if you want to get started and want opinions on how your song or dance is you should get TikTok and make yourself known and see what the outside world has to say or think about your project

Committee calls for investigation into whether competition in the recorded music market is being distorted
axel j palos's curator insight, August 24, 11:23 AM
A lot a
Of artist are threatening to leave and take the music with them…music platforms take 30-55% of music income from stream while the rest the label takes then a small amount is giving to the artist, and a lot of artist are fed up but giving them more money will mess up the whole revenue streams .
Nathan Thomas's curator insight, September 19, 6:13 PM

Nathan’s Insight:

Streaming has changed the game when it comes to music. A lot of the credits go undone or noticed though. The Uk wants a reset to the platform. A industry that generates 600m a year, still does not make it to the right hands always. The chairman, Julian Knight feels the same way as he stated “while streaming has brought revenue, the composers  and musicians are losing out”.

TheGuardian is a reliable new source. Establishing itself in the UK in 1822, they have since gone from national to internationally known.

Devine Evans's curator insight, September 19, 10:45 PM
This article was very insightful and in my opinion gave an interesting perspective on the injustices that musical Artists experience when it comes to streaming royalties.  The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) committee did a really good job revealing the off balance pay out of funds.  I was blown away at the data presented that revealed 30% to 34% of royalties are retained by the streaming platforms with another 55% being paid out to labels leaving only 11% to 15% to be paid the actual content creators.

Reliability of source: theguardian.com is a globally recognized media outlet founded in 1821.

*It is imperative how this article tells how Brandon, the writer of this article, describes how technology in musicians' music works and how they use it, which helps me, especially as a new musician trying to find my sound. It goes on to show why engineers are essential in this type of music and why to make a fantastic song, they need many different people for roles. Well others think this type of music would be just awful I believe its beautiful to combined both styles of music.

Music education startup JoyTunes is Israel's newest unicorn

Music education startup JoyTunes is Israel's newest unicorn | New Music Industry | Scoop.it
Music education startup JoyTunes is Israel's newest unicorn after its latest USD 50 million funding round. The company’s 2020 revenue was USD 100 million.
Blue's curator insight, July 24, 9:52 PM

With apps taking the tech world by storm, it shouldn't be surprising that JoyTunes is doing as well as it is; however the rate at which it's expanding is rather astronomical. With an astonishing 50 mil start up, the company doubled their return before the turn of the new year. I would attribute it's success not only to the advent of digital media but also due to the confinement worldwide at the start of the Covid-19 epidemic. Considering that a lot of it's tech revolves around teaching yourself (learning piano/guitar), the applications of this app can only extend further into the realm of self-improvement should the company reinforce the focus already in play.

Mittal was a striving person willing to put his mind to whatever he pursued. With quotes like "If you don’t think you can make it, the chances of you making it are very, very low." you can tell he is very straight forward with his agenda. Being able to run multiple business, generate passive income, & breaking records sounds like nature to Mittal. We need more people like Mittal in the industry to withhold the professionalism it carries.
