Provençal is a dialect of Occitan, spoken in southern France. Almost all of its speakers are in the Provence region. On constate aujourd’hui un engouement sans précédent pour les prénoms régionaux, sans doute lié à l’essor de la généalogie et au déracinement de nombreuses familles.

Well hello, Languedoc!

 

According to this post, regional names are more popular than ever in France at the moment, perhaps because parents want to use a name to connect to their family's heritage.  The language guerilla in me says this can only be a good thing for awareness of minority languages and dialects.

 

Anyway, these romance beauties are worth a look: we have Aliénor, Guilhemine, Estéban, Pascau, and more.
