Meta-Learning: The importance of thinking about Thinking Education & Teacher Conferences

Meta-Learning: The importance of thinking about Thinking Education & Teacher Conferences | Modernization of Education Content | Scoop.it

When we think about what we teach our students, the first thing that comes to mind is knowledge; the curriculum and standards are full of concepts students should learn and understand. As we think about it further, we realize it’s important that their knowledge does not remain inert: students should be able to apply what they know through skills like critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. We also realize that our students should embody certain character qualities in how they engage with the world: grit, perseverance, mindfulness, etc.

We may think that sounds like a complete, multi-dimensional education.

But there is one more dimension we are missing: the “meta” dimension. “Meta” is a term that means “referring to itself”. In other words, students must learn how to learn. They must be reflective about their growth. They must learn to set goals, select strategies, and evaluate their progress. They must internalize a growth mindset, believing effort matters and approaching challenges with excitement.

8 Needs For Project-Based Learning In The 21st Century :: TeachThought

8 Needs For Project-Based Learning In The 21st Century :: TeachThought | Modernization of Education Content | Scoop.it
We tend to think of project-based learning as focused on research, planning problem-solving, authenticity, and inquiry. Further, collaboration, resourcefulness, and networking matter too–dozens of characteristics “fit” into project-based learning. Its popularity comes from, among other characteristics, its general flexibility as a curriculum framework. You can do, teach, assess, and connect almost anything within the context of a well-designed project.

But what if we had to settle on a handful (or two) of itemized characteristics for modern, connected, possibly place-based, and often digital project-based learning? Well, then the following might be useful.

Flipping the curriculum could help us meet the demands of the artificial-intelligence era

Technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotech are redefining what it means to be human—and employable.

Jobs are disappearing as automation replaces the need for people. New occupations are emerging that demand competencies that can transfer across the multiple assignments workers will experience in their lives. The disappearance of global boundaries presents opportunities—and risks—for all workers.

These changes demand a significant, ambitious evolution in how we prepare students for their future in a world that's increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. We need a relevant and modernized education.

Looking into the future Of Distance Education. Is this reality?

Chong Jiaxuan's comment, March 9, 2018 9:58 AM
According to the article, education now focusses more on information and data, followed by understanding and knowledge, and in last place, transfer of expertise. However, in the future, when artificial intelligence becomes common, education needs to focus on transfer of expertise before everything else. I feel that this is rather true. Knowledge of events and subjects might give you a boost in your career, but what is more important is the skills to learn, which is the transfer of expertise. Education needs to shift in order to meet this demand of skills needed in the future.
Julián David Cano's curator insight, March 20, 2018 7:14 PM
It can be evidenced that a lot of aspects of education continue being as traditional as always. Nevertheless, I must highlight that nowadays people are becoming aware about the importance of incorporating technology into the classrooms. Although people are becoming aware, taking advantage of technology to improve the learning process is still a challenge.

This article is really interesting due to the fact that it provides specific examples of skills needed in this century, and that can be achieved through the use of technological devices. Also, this article made me think about my role as a future teacher and the responsibility to start making little changes into the classrooms in order to improve education and contribute positive aspects to it. it is clear that the article makes a direct relationship about technology and education, and how to prepare students to deal with the 21st century skills.

Decide the sort of data included. The data that is incorporated changes starting with one leaflet then onto the next. The handout may incorporate the association's statement of purpose, item highlights, diagrams and charts, guidelines, photographs, and a logo. To cause choose what to incorporate, think about what reason the handout serves. Is it to remind a prospect about the fundamentals of your custom brochure design company or is it to offer a particular administration or item, in which case you'll need to ensure your prospect recognizes what to do straightaway: visit your site, enter a code, call an exceptional telephone number, and so forth.

Applying Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to the Use of Educational Technology

Applying Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to the Use of Educational Technology | Modernization of Education Content | Scoop.it

Putting the technology into the hands of students and helping them to understand how to use it in a way that leads to their own self-actualisation can also be a perfectly legitimate goal in itself. If we do this though, we should be sure that the technology we teach students about has genuine functionality for them outside of the classroom and measuring this against Maslow’s hierarchy is a good way to do this.

Blockchain-Based Online learning platform to connect tutors and students

Blockchain-Based Online learning platform to connect tutors and students | Modernization of Education Content | Scoop.it

A peer-to-peer online learning platform is gearing up to bring the “out of date” education sector into the 21st century by becoming a one-stop shop for tutors and students.

Blockchain-based NTOK says its ecosystem helps to fundraise education and removes geographical hurdles for teachers and pupils – and will offer a high-quality learning environment furnished with textbooks and courses from prominent publishers.

The concept is already being put to the test, with an Alpha version of the platform being used as an online English language school. NTOK executives say they are obtaining “rapid feedback” from users so extra features can be developed.

Although the company is planning to specialize in foreign languages, other offerings will include pre-school education, supplementary learning for primary and secondary school students and courses in coding and Blockchain.
