In a major step towards making Europe a top supercomputing region globally, the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking - EuroHPC has selected 8 sites for supercomputing centres located in 8 different Member States to host the new high-performance computing machines. The hosting sites will be located in Sofia (Bulgaria), Ostrava (Czechia), Kajaani (Finland), Bologna (Italy), Bissen (Luxembourg), Minho (Portugal), Maribor (Slovenia), and Barcelona (Spain). They will support the development of major applications in domains such as personalised medicine, drug and material design, bio-engineering, weather forecasting, and climate change. In total, 19 of the 28 countries participating in the Joint Undertaking will be part of the consortia operating the centres. Together with EU funds, it represents a total budget of € 840 million. The exact funding arrangements for the new supercomputers will be reflected in hosting agreements that will be signed soon. EU-Projekt „Greenhouses to Reduce CO2 on RooFs“ hat auch ein Standbein in Bettemburg
Es ist eine tolle Vorstellung: Dächer sollen künftig mit Gewächshäusern ausgestattet sein, in denen Obst und Gemüse gedeihen und die mit Abwärme und Abluft funktionieren. Während es solche Konzepte schon jahrelang auf verschiedenen Kontinenten gibt, arbeitet die EU nun daran, standardisierte, flexible und auch noch wiederverwendbare Gewächshäuser zu entwickeln, um solche Lösungen großflächig einzusetzen.
Eins der Pilotprojekte dafür entsteht gerade in Bettemburg am „Institut de Formation Sectoriel du Bâtiment“ (iFSB) und beim Innovationszentrum für Bautechnologien „Neobuild“ und wurde gestern Morgen im Beisein von Energie- und Landesplanungsminister Claude Turmes (déi gréng) vorgestellt. Das Projekt „Greenhouses to Reduce CO2 on RooFs“ (GROOF) läuft seit 2017 und noch bis 2021 im Interreg-Förderprogramm Nord-West-Europa mit einem Gesamtbudget von 4,88 Millionen Euro, davon stammen 2,9 Millionen aus EU-Fonds.

Luxembourg have made dramatic progress in their efforts to fortify their cybersecurity efforts. In 2017, the country was ranked 36th in the world and 20th in Europe by the International Telecommunication Index’s Global Cybersecurity Index. However, owing to significant progress, “the green heart of Europe”, in the space of one single year have reduced their ranking to 11 position worldwide. In Europe they have also managed to reduce their ranking to number 7 out of the 46 countries evaluated.

5G technology is now ready to be deployed and will have a big impact on the implementation of autonomous and connected driving as well as on the Internet of Things. According to inCITES Consulting, author of the Europe 5G Readiness Index, “5G has become the new arms race between the different nations, which are desperately trying to claim leadership in 5G for their own reasons”. However, a country’s readiness for and ability to implement 5G depends on a number of economic, operational and social factors. The 5G Readiness Index provides an overview of how ready different European countries are to implement this key technology for the future.
Strong government vision
Luxembourg ranks 10th in the overall index, or 9th if the index is weighed according to the importance of major criteria. The country ranks 1st in the Country Profile category, a feat that is largely due to the government’s strong ICT vision.
The country also ranks between 1st and 7th in 6 out of 7 criteria for Regulation and Policy, a category that includes factors relating to the regulatory and policy frameworks that will be key to facilitate the smooth and swift deployment of 5G networks. It is top-ranked in both the effectiveness of law-making bodies and laws relating to ICT criteria. This highlights Luxembourg’s capability to make the necessary regulatory interventions needed for 5G to flourish. IEE S.A. today became the first company to set up on the "Luxembourg Automobility Campus" dedicated to innovation in the automotive sector.
Founded in Luxembourg in 1989, IEE, a flagship of the Luxembourg industry, specialises in automotive safety systems and in particular in the development of intelligent sensor systems. In a first phase, on Monday 27 May 2019, 285 IEE employees began to work in the "IEE Innovation Centre" on the campus located in the town of Bissen near the locality of Roost.
The IEE company employs more than 4,100 people worldwide, including more than 10% in research and development (R&D). About 635 people are currently working for IEE in Luxembourg, split between the sites in Contern, Echternach and the company's new headquarters in Bissen. In the long term, IEE will relocate all of its activities from Contern to Bissen. Luxembourg’s government defines its strategy vision for artificial intelligence
Mai 24, 2019; Luxembourg’s government has made its vision for AI known via a newly published strategy report that promises, first and foremost, a human-centric approach.
The “Strategy Vision for Luxembourg” was jointly drafted by Digital Luxembourg, a government initiative that strengthens and unifies the country’s digitalization efforts, and Luxinnovation, the national innovation agency, with valuable input from public and private experts.
The starting point of a process without a finish line, this vision is a framework for action and a springboard for new policies. Acknowledging the speed of AI’s arrival, the report articulates the government’s intention to actively shape, drive and leverage this life-changing technology. It aligns with Luxembourg’s three digital ambitions:
Be among the most advanced digital societies in the world, & especially in the EU
Become a data-driven & sustainable economy
Support human-centric AI development

Le ministre délégué à la Digitalisation, Marc Hansen, a annoncé lors de l’ouverture du deuxième Infrachain Summit à la Spuerkeess, ce jeudi matin, le lancement d’une blockchain «publique», développée par le CTIE et le Sigi. Une première mondiale.
«Nous allons lancer une blockchain publique, probablement unique au monde, dont les opérateurs seront le CTIE et le Sigi, à un niveau national et local.» Le ministre délégué à la Digitalisation, Marc Hansen , n’a pas fait le déplacement à la deuxième édition du sommet Infrachain pour rien.
«Nous allons mener des expériences sur les premières applications possibles, pour mieux comprendre les opportunités. Mais nous sommes déterminés à être des pionniers! Si les autorités se lancent dans cette initiative, cela devrait amener le secteur privé à en faire autant», ajoute-t-il.

In Luxemburg sprechen die meisten Menschen Französisch auf der Arbeit. Zu Hause wird vor allem auf Luxemburgisch kommuniziert. Das ergab eine Umfrage des nationalen Statistikinstituts Statec.
Je nachdem wo man sich befindet, werden in Luxemburg andere Sprachen benutzt. Das meldet die Statistikbehörde Statec am Montag. 53 Prozent der Menschen, die in Luxemburg leben, reden zu Hause Luxemburgisch. 32 Prozent sprechen Französisch und 19 Prozent Portugiesisch. Die meisten (69 Prozent) gaben an, dass sie zu Hause nur eine Sprache sprechen. 20 Prozent benutzen in den eigenen vier Wänden zwei Sprachen, elf sogar drei oder mehr Sprachen. Luxemburgisch ist auch die Sprache, die von den meisten Menschen am besten beherrscht wird: Bei der Frage nach der Hauptsprache gaben 42 Prozent der Befragten Luxemburgisch an, 20 Prozent Französisch und 14 Prozent Portugiesisch.
Auf der Arbeit sieht es anders aus. Drei Viertel der Befragten (78 Prozent) gaben an, dass sie Französisch reden, wenn sie sich mit ihren Kollegen oder mit Kunden unterhalten. Die Hälfte aller Befragten nutzt die englische Sprache (51 Prozent). Auch Luxemburgisch wird von der Hälfte der Arbeitstätigen in Luxemburg genutzt (48 Prozent). Dabei ist anzumerken, dass nur ein Viertel der Menschen (26 Prozent) ausschließlich auf eine Sprache auf der Arbeit zurückgreift. 29 Prozent benutzen zwei, 20 Prozent drei, 19 Prozent vier und 6 Prozent benutzen sogar fünf Sprachen oder mehr. Kiffen soll aber nicht gefördert und auch keine Einkommensquelle für den Staat werden, so Schneider, der noch einmal unterstrich, dass es Luxemburg vor allem um den Gesundheitsschutz und - Stichwort Qualität - um die Sicherheit der Konsumenten gehe. Der Erlös soll indes in die Aufklärung, die Prävention und die Suchtbehandlung fließen. Wieviel Gramm in Luxemburg für den Eigenbedarf erlaubt werden sollen, ist derweil noch nicht gewusst, ebenso wenig, wie hoch der THC-Gehalt sein darf, der auf dem Schwarzmarkt momentan im Durchschnitt bei 20 Prozent liegen soll, in Ausnahmefällen aber auch schon mal 60 Prozent erreichen kann.
Um Drogentourismus zu vermeiden, soll Cannabis hierzulande nur an im Großherzogtum wohnhafte Konsumenten ab 18 Jahren verkauft werden, wobei unsere direkten Nachbarn aber anscheinend nicht gerade begeistert sind, dass Luxemburg der erste EU-Mitgliedstaat wird, in dem Cannabis legalisiert werden soll. Die elektronische Patientenakte wird die Möglichkeit enthalten, sich für oder gegen die Organspende auszusprechen.
Alle Menschen, die in Luxemburg leben, sind automatisch Organspender – es sei denn, sie sprechen sich zeit ihres Lebens ausdrücklich dagegen aus. Dieses Bekenntnis des Gesetzgebers zur Organspende geht einher mit einer sehr hohen Akzeptanz in der Bevölkerung.
82 Prozent der Menschen sprechen sich sehr positiv gegenüber der Organspende aus. Das ergab eine Studie, die das Gesundheitsministerium und die Vereinigung Luxembourg Transplant im letzten Jahr gemeinsam vorgestellt haben.
Das Gesetz vom 25. November 1982 sieht allerdings auch vor, dass die Ärzte vor einer Organentnahme zuerst sicherstellen müssen, ob sich der oder die Verstorbene nicht dagegen ausgesprochen hat. In der Regel werden die Angehörigen um ihre Einwilligung gebeten. Tatsächlich lehnen in der Praxis 40 bis 50 Prozent der Angehörigen eine Organentnahme bei dem oder der Verstorbenen ab.
Organspendeausweise gerne gesehen
Die Regierung fördert aus diesem Grund das Mitführen eines Organspendeausweises. Auf einem solchen Ausweis (den man etwa in der Brieftasche mitführen kann) kann eine Person angeben, ob sie für oder gegen die Entnahme ihrer Organe nach dem Tod ist. Die Spenderausweise sind zum Beispiel in Apotheken, in Arztpraxen oder in Gemeindeverwaltungen erhältlich.

Le géant (et discret) chinois Tuspark a levé un coin de voile, en fin de semaine dernière, sur le fonds d’investissement qu’il est en train de créer, et qui pourrait aller jusqu’à 100 millions d’euros... pour que des fintech chinoises s’installent au Luxembourg.
C’était vendredi dernier. À la Banque internationale à Luxembourg, passée sous le pavillon chinois de Legend Holdings. Une série d’invités triés sur le volet ont assisté à la «cérémonie de lancement du fonds d’investissement dans l’innovation Chine-Luxembourg», organisée par Tuspark. Le 15 mars 2019 des milliers de lycéens luxembourgeois ont défilé dans les rues de la capitale, se joignant au mouvement mondial pour réclamer des actions politiques concrètes en matière de lutte contre le réchauffement climatique. En réponse à cette large mobilisation, le gouvernement souhaite associer les jeunes activement à la recherche et à la mise en œuvre de solutions pour la protection de la planète.
Le Premier ministre, Xavier Bettel, a rencontré une délégation de Youth for Climate Luxembourg, organisateur de la manifestation du 15 mars 2019, et le Conseil de gouvernement a décidé d’approfondir le dialogue avec les jeunes autour du changement climatique.
Pour recueillir les attentes et les propositions des élèves de l’enseignement secondaire, le ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse, le ministère de l'Environnement, du Climat et du Développement durable et le ministère de l'Agriculture, de la Viticulture et du Développement rural, en coopération avec la Conférence nationale des élèves (CNEL), lancent une série de cinq échanges régionaux.
Les discussions avec les élèves, en présence des ministres Claude Meisch, Carole Dieschbourg et Romain Schneider, seront organisées en ateliers et porteront sur les thèmes suivants :
établissements scolaires durables ;
protection du climat dans les domaines du bâtiment, de la mobilité, de l’énergie et des déchets ;

L' "EuroHPC Joint Undertaking" est une initiative conjointe de l'UE et des pays européens pour développer un écosystème de calcul à haute performance de classe mondiale au sein de l'Europe et dont le siège est au Luxembourg. Dans le cadre de la mise en place d'un réseau européen de HPC, EuroHPC avait récemment lancé un appel à projets aux pays européens pour obtenir des propositions d'hébergement de superordinateurs pétascales.
Le Luxembourg a soumis un projet de HPC, élaboré en collaboration entre le ministère de l'Économie et LuxConnect, à l'appel à manifestations d'intérêt pour la sélection des hébergements pour supercalculateurs pétascales dans le cadre du réseau européen de HPC. À l'issue de l'évaluation des dossiers, il s'avère que le Luxembourg a remporté l'appel à candidatures.
Le Luxembourg va ainsi obtenir un cofinancement européen pour la réalisation de son propre HPC qui sera intégré au réseau européen de superordinateurs. Le superordinateur luxembourgeois sera prioritairement axé sur les besoins des entreprises et des acteurs de l'économie luxembourgeoise, avec un accent particulier sur l'utilisation par les PME et les start-up ainsi que sur des applications dans le cadre de la recherche, de la médecine personnalisée et de projets eHealth. Quels services d'urgences sont de garde ce soir? Dans quelle pharmacie puis-je aller acheter mes médicaments ce dimanche, après être allé dans quelle maison médicale pour voir un médecin? L'application mobile SANTE.lu a pour objectif de répondre à ces questions. Elle a été créé «pour simplifier l'accès des citoyens aux informations de santé publique», a indiqué ce vendredi matin le ministère de la Santé.
L'application, disponible gratuitement sur Apple Store et Google Play pour smartphones et tablettes, «regroupe les informations les plus pertinentes et les plus consultées des principales rubriques du portail sante.lu», précise le ministère. Les internautes y reçoivent ainsi également les alertes sanitaires, peuvent y retrouver les numéros d'urgence ou encore télécharger leur passeport de vie pour devenir donneurs d'organes ou encore y visualiser les 3 gestes qui peuvent sauver une vie. Sante.lu permet aussi «de découvrir l'application mobile DispoDoc» pour «localiser en temps réel les médecins généralistes disponibles dans l'entourage immédiat du patient», ainsi que ses heures d'ouverture. Sandy Heinericy und Nora Kneip sind Lehrerinnen im Zyklus 1 und 2.1. Seit drei Jahren arbeiten sie Teilzeit auch im SciTeach Center. In Zusammenarbeit mit einem Team aus Wissenschaftlerinnen erarbeiten und betreuen sie hier Ifen-Fortbildungen zu naturwissenschaftlichen Themen. Teilnehmende LehrerInnen bekommen die Möglichkeit, sich mit dem forschend- entdeckenden sowie dem schülerzentrierten Lernen vertraut zu machen.
science.lu hat die beiden zu ihrem Science-Hintergrund und ihren Erfahrungen mit „forschend-entdeckendem Lernen“ im Éveil aux Sciences-Unterricht befragt. Friday saw the presentation of Luxembourg's strategies for artificial intelligence (AI) and the continuous digitisation of priority economic sectors.
On 24 May 2019, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, who is also Minister of Digitalisation, and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy Étienne Schneider presented the political guidelines for AI and the data-driven innovation strategy to support the emergence of a sustainable and trusted economy in the Grand Duchy.
The development of a strategic vision of AI in Luxembourg has become a national priority, intended to be beneficial to society and its citizens. Luxembourgish crémants have won a total of 21 gold medals at the National Crémant Competition of France and Luxembourg which was held in southeast France on Friday 24 May 2019.
The awards ceremony of the 28th edition of the National Crémant Competition of France and Luxembourg took place last Friday in Die in the Drôme department of France.
The Luxembourg Moselle is the only wine region with the right to present its samples to this competition, in addition to the regions of Alsace, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Limoux, Loire, Die, Jura and Savoie. Once again, Luxembourg winegrowers have shown that their products should no longer hide behind the competition. At more than 40 tables, the crémants were tasted blindly by different representatives of the wine regions in four sub-categories (Blanc Brut, Blanc Brut Millésimé, Rosé Brut, Blanc de Noirs Brut). The tasters of the Luxembourg crémants appreciated the approximately 80 samples presented.
In all, Luxembourg's crémants managed to attract 21 gold and 6 silver medals from the Moselle. The Luxembourg delegation, made up of representatives of the Domaines Vinsmoselle cooperative, private winegrowers, trade, the press and the wine institute, was delighted with the results of the award ceremony. Robotique, Smart and Green Energy, Smart Home, électromobilité, Internet of Things, réseaux de communication … autant de nouvelles technologies de plus en plus employées dans le secteur industriel et qui, en matière de formation professionnelle, ouvrent la voie à des métiers d’avenir.
Cinq lycées luxembourgeois, qui se distinguent par une grande expérience dans le secteur technologique et dans la formation professionnelle, lancent en septembre 2019 une nouvelle formation de technicien en Smart Technologies.
Le secteur de l’électrotechnique a en effet fortement évolué ces dernières années. La numérisation, l’automatisation, la mise en réseau des appareils et l’accent mis sur le développement durable requièrent de nouvelles compétences. Die Cannabis-Legalisierung steht im Regierungsprogramm und soll auch noch in dieser Legislatur umgesetzt werden. Derzeit befinden sich die beiden Minister Schneider und Braz noch in der Phase des "fact finding". Dazu gehörte auch eine dreitägige Reise nach Kanada, um sich ein Bild vom kanadischen Modell zu machen. Am Freitag stellten sie ihre Schlussfolgerungen vor.
Gespräche mit dem Minister für Grenzschutz und Kriminalitätsbekämpfung, Bill Blair, Vertretern aus dem Gesundheitssektor, dem Außenministerium und der Staatsanwaltschaft sowie Besuche von Suchtzentren und Produktionsstätten standen auf dem Programm. Durch den Kanadabesuch sei man einen guten Schritt weitergekommen. "Das kanadische Modell passt am besten auf Luxemburg. Wir werden aber auch andere Modelle analysieren, wie die in den Niederlanden, Portugal, Urugay oder Colorado/USA", sagte Schneider.
In Kanada dürfen Erwachsene ab 18, in manchen Landesteilen ab 19 Jahren 30 Gramm Cannabis in unter strengen Auflagen lizenzierten Verkaufsstätten pro Tag kaufen und auch bei sich tragen. Zuhause darf es unbegrenzt gelagert werden, es darf aber nicht über die Staatsgrenzen hinaus mitgenommen werden oder eingeführt werden. Jeder darf bis zu vier Cannabis-Pflanzen für den Eigenkonsum zu Hause anbauen. La nouvelle réglementation, entrée en vigueur le 1er mai 2018, vise à améliorer la sécurité et le confort de tous les usagers de la route.

Chaque cycliste, motocycliste, automobiliste est tout d'abord aussi un piéton. Et c'est l'usager de la route le plus vulnérable de tous!
Règles d'or pour une cohabitation sereine
Le piéton étant l'usager vulnérable par excellence, même si le trafic motorisé doit vous laisser la priorité, n'insistez pas sur vos droits !
Marchez sur le trottoir, à défaut, sur l'accottement.
Veillez toujours à évaluer la vitesse et la distance du véhicule qui s'approche de vous.
Hors agglomération (et même à l'intérieur d'une localité), la nuit et en cas de mauvaise visibilité, portez une veste ou autre accessoire réfléchissant.

Traditionsgemäß verbringen viele Vereine und Vereinigungen den Tag der Arbeit gemeinsam mit ihren Aktiven und Helfern in den Wäldern bei gemütlichem Beisammensein mit Grillgut und flüssiger Nahrung. So auch in der Gemeinde Differdingen, wo das Tageblatt einige Vereine besuchte.
Im Gespräch mit den Vereinsverantwortlichen wurde immer wieder betont, dass Traditionen wie der 1. Mai erhalten bleiben müssten, gehe es bei diesem Brauch doch vor allem darum, das ungezwungene Beisammensein der Vereinsmitglieder zu fördern. Wird während des ganzen Jahres zwar viel zusammengearbeitet, bleibt das Zwischenmenschliche jedoch immer wieder gerne auf der Strecke.
Doch wo kommt der Brauch des Maikranzes am 1. Mai eigentlich her? Macht man sich in den Geschichtsbüchern oder im Internet schlau, findet man heraus, dass der Kranz ein Jahrhunderte altes Symbol für Frühling und Glück ist, gleichgestellt mit dem deutschen Maibaum oder noch dem französischen Verkauf der Maiglöckchen. They will support the development of major applications in domains such as personalised medicine, drug and material design, bio-engineering, weather forecasting, and climate change. In total, 19 of the 28 countries participating in the Joint Undertaking will be part of the consortia operating the centres. Together with EU funds, it represents a total budget of € 840 million. The exact funding arrangements for the new supercomputers will be reflected in hosting agreements that will be signed soon.
