Amazon a annoncé le lancement au Grand-Duché de son service d’abonnement «Amazon Prime», à compter de ce mercredi 8 novembre, faisant du Luxembourg le 15e pays à proposer cette offre.
En quelques mots, Amazon promet une «livraison en un jour ouvré, gratuite et illimitée, sur une centaine de milliers d’articles», d’après son communiqué de presse. Si la livraison en un jour ouvré est déjà proposée au Luxembourg sans abonnement particulier, elle est facturée entre 5 et 10€ en moyenne par achat. Point de rencontre pour la semaine de milliers de start-up, la cité aux mille couleurs accueille l’édition 2017 du Web Summit, rassemblement de jeunes entreprises désireuses de percer sur le marché. L’occasion pour le Luxembourg de faire valoir ses atouts.
«Au Luxembourg, nous avons autant de lois que nécessaire, mais le moins possible pour promouvoir l’innovation.» C’est par cette phrase sibylline que Xavier Bettel a choisi de résumer sur Twitter sa présence au sein du Web Summit 2017 qui se tient jusqu’à jeudi à Lisbonne. Principal événement en matière de technologies numériques en Europe avec plus de 50.000 participants, il doit permettre la mise en relation entre start-up – dont près d’un tiers lié aux nouvelles technologies – et bailleurs de fonds. L’occasion aussi, pour le Luxembourg, de s’offrir une vitrine comme terre d’accueil pour les jeunes pousses les plus prometteuses.

Prof. Ines Thiele, researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) at the University of Luxembourg has been selected for the highly prestigious research funding of the European Research Council (ERC).
The head of the LCSB group “Molecular Systems Physiology” and ATTRCT fellow of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) has been awarded an “ERC Starting Grant” for her project “Bug the Drug”. Ines Thiele’s project is to develop novel computer models that will assist in the personalisation of drugs used in cancer therapy or for treating Parkinson’s disease, so that the best drug for each individual patient can be prescribed. The basis for the models will be data on the patients’ dietary habits and the composition of their bacterial gut flora. This should help to reduce side effects and intolerances. The distinguished project will be funded with 1.6 million euros over a period of five years. L’extension du domaine de la lutte – en matière médiatique – est en marche : ce lundi matin Christophe Bumb et Laurence Bervard, ex-journalistes du Wort, ont présenté leur bébé « reporter.lu » et donné quelques noms de futurs collaborateurs.

« Les médias luxembourgeois sont dans une phase de rupture sans précédent. Le modèle de business de la presse écrite subventionnée est mis en question. Ce qui a aussi un impact sur la façon de consommer du public : il s’attend à plus d’informations, gratuites et mieux recherchées. S’y ajoute la question de l’indépendance des médias : l’influence de la politique sur différentes composantes de la presse est devenue plus importante ces derniers temps – et je ne parle pas uniquement du Luxemburger Wort » expliquait Christophe Bumb lors de la conférence de presse qui a eu lieu dans l’ambiance cosy et hip de la Bouneweeger Stuff – par un soleil radieux.
L’indépendance est un atout pour Bumb : 100 pour cent des parts appartiennent aux fondateurs (Bumb et Bervard). Reporter.lu se veut un média citoyen : « Il n’y a pas de fonds cachés, pas de parti ou de syndicat derrière », soutient le fondateur, qui n’exclut pourtant pas de demander l’aide à la presse en ligne, promue par un règlement ministériel issue du bureau de Xavier Bettel. Même si selon les fondateurs, leur modèle de fonctionnement n’est pas axé sur l’obtention de cette aide : « Elle n’est qu’un régime transitoire et donc nous ne la visons pas depuis le début. Le nouveau magazine en ligne «Reporter» mènera sa campagne de financement pendant cinq semaines à compter du 15 novembre, annonçaient les fondateurs ce lundi.
Christoph Bumb et Laurence Bervard présentaient ce lundi un business model «sérieux» pour le magazine en ligne Reporter qui se veut «indépendant, critique, d’investigation et participatif». Selon les deux anciens journalistes du Wort, Reporter a «besoin de 150.000 euros pour pouvoir démarrer. Pour cela nous avons besoin de 1.000 supporters qui seraient prêts à investir 150 euros». Luxembourg has been ranked in the top 10 cities in Europe for real estate investment and development in 2018, amid expectations it will benefit from Britain's departure from the EU.
The city for the first time entered the ranks of the most attractive cities in Europe, claiming ninth spot in an annual real estate forecast published jointly by the Urban Land Institute and PwC.
Brexit underpinned Luxembourg's place in the rankings, according to the report, which is based on a survey of 800 real estate professionals in Europe.
“We see Luxembourg as a very attractive alternative for London. You can already see increasing construction activity there since the Brexit vote,” a Swiss investor said in the survey.

Data is the gold dust of the 21st century, and with the amount of that data set to double every two years (reaching 44 trillion gigabytes by 2020), it’s allowing organizations of all sizes to open up opportunities to truly understand their customers. For instance, analyzing data in near real-time and acting on insights to deliver superior experiences.
However, the data bonanza is not a free-for-all. The very acts which excite businesses – holding and using data – have the potential to expose them to significant legal and reputation damage. Just as there has been a groundswell of interest in harnessing the power of data, so consumers are becoming more aware of their right to privacy and what giving away their data can mean. Organizations that fail to properly secure customer information not only face regulatory and legal sanctions, but can expect significant damage to reputation and trust. Marissa Mayer lost her annual bonus over the mishandling of security breaches that exposed the personal information of more than 1 billion users.
Governments are reacting to the increased demand for data legislation as well. Regulations such as the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force on 28 May 2018 guarantees the data privacy rights of any EU citizen, no matter where their data is being held or processed. Access City Award 2018
EU Access City Award 2018: Raul Krauthausen
The European Commission will reward the most accessible cities at a ceremony during the annual European Day of Persons with Disabilities Conference in Brussels, on 5 December.
This year, 26 cities across the EU participated in the competition.
After strict selection procedures made by national and EU juries, four European cities were shortlisted:
Ljubljana (Slovenia)
Luxembourg (Luxembourg)
Lyon (France)
Viborg (Denmark)
The Access City Award will close the European Day of Persons with Disabilities which is attended by around 400 people every year. Marianne Thyssen, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility will chair the event and hand over the Award to the winner and successor to the city of Chester, winner of the Access City Award 2017.

The Fondation Jeunes Scientifiques Luxembourg has announced that three young Luxembourg scietists - Maverick Schmit, Alex Muller and Valentin Ringlet - have won a prize for their 3-D printing project that prints concrete.
From 23 to 29 October 2017, the international pre-university scientific competition MOSTRATEC was held in Novo Hamburgo, in the south of Brazil. Luxembourg was one of the 20 countries represented, with two teams, one of which won a special mention from the jury.
The project "A Modular Concrete 3D Printer" was y three pupils from the Aline Mayrisch Lycée, who designed and created a special 3D printer that prints concrete objects, instead of plastic, the material used by traditional 3D printers. Their goal is to revolutionise the construction industry, by printing entire buildings made of concrete. Their multi-disciplinary project, combining mechanical engineering, electronics, computer science and materials science, has been supported by the University of Luxembourg and Paul Wurth SA, and qualified for MOSTRATEC at the 2017 Jonk Fuerscher National Competition. In the Brazilian contest, it made a strong impression on the public and the jury, which rewarded it with an honourable mention "for outstanding project". Luxembourg for Finance (LFF) has annoucned that the Japanese insurer, Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance (ADI), has today become the latest leading global financial institution to announce plans to establish its European subsidiary in Luxembourg following the UK's decision to leave the European Union.
Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance is part of MS & AD, one of Asia's largest insurers, and joins AIG, FM Global, CNA Hardy, Hiscox, RSA, Liberty Mutual as well as Japan's Tokio Marine, in choosing Luxembourg as their new base to ensure that they can continue to serve their European client base without disruption.

An die 1200 Wildunfälle registriert die Polizei jährlich auf Luxemburgs Straßen. Während der Morgen- und der Abenddämmerung ist Wild meistens am aktivsten. Im Herbst und Winter ist die Unfallgefahr besonders groß, da die Tage kürzer sind und sich die Dämmerungszeiten stärker mit den Stoßzeiten des Berufsverkehrs überschneiden. Um die Gefahr eines Wildunfalls zu reduzieren, rät die Polizei folgendes zu beachten:
Langsam fahren, wenn Schilder vor Wildwechsel und Treibjagden warnen;
Aufpassen, wenn Straßen durch Wälder oder entlang von Feldern führen;
Stets mit mehreren Tieren rechnen, Wildschweine und Rehe sind Rudeltiere;
Ist ein Tier auf der Fahrbahn: bremsen, hupen und abblenden;
Wenn eine Kollision unabwendbar scheint, so stark wie möglich bremsen, Lenkrad in Geradeausstellung festhalten und keine abrupte Lenkbewegungen sowie hektische Ausweichmanöver machen;
Nach einem Zusammenstoß die Unfallstelle absichern (Warnblinker anschalten, Warnweste anziehen, Warndreieck aufstellen) und die Polizei informieren.
ACL (Automobil-Club) leistet finanziellen Beistand
Die durch Wildunfälle verursachten Schäden an Fahrzeugen können von ein paar Kratzern bis zum Totalschaden reichen. Die meisten Versicherer decken über ihre Autoversicherungspakete, die verursachten Schäden ab. Sollte jedoch die Versicherung nicht greifen, kann der “Automobile Club du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg” (ACL) seinen Mitglieder bis zu max. 500 Euro Beihilfe leisten, jedoch nur unter Vorlage einer quittierten Werkstattrechnung und einem, von der Polizei, ausgestelltem Attest. Dies gilt aber nur für Wildunfälle, die sich innerhalb der Landesgrenzen ereignet haben.

Melusine (French: ) or Melusina is a figure of European folklore, a female spirit of fresh water in a sacred spring or river. She is usually depicted as a woman who is a serpent or fish from the waist down (much like a mermaid). She is also sometimes illustrated with wings, two tails, or both.
The first mention of Melusina dates back to 1392 in a tale written by Jean d’Arras. The Duke of Berry, grandson of John of Luxembourg, known as John the Blind, commissioned the book recounting her legend. At the same time many written and oral stories from long ago attest to the existence of a very beautiful woman who changed into a fish or snake woman in her bath. On being spied upon by her knight she would even transform herself into a dragon. This woman sounds incredibly like Melusina and her existence seem to go back thousands of years. A LITERARY SAGA As yet without a given name, Melusina was identified as a creature, a goddess, strange and often malevolent, half woman, half dragon, fish or snake. Her origins are lost in the mists of time. She underwent many different metamorphoses, which are related in ancient texts and mythology (the saga of Gilgamesh, Ulysses’ Odyssey, Aphrodite and Anchises…). In the Middle Ages the image of the snake-dragon woman underwent an important transformation. Under the influence of the Catholic Church she became a devil. She represented the sin of lust, and illuminated manuscripts show her brushing her long hair in front of a mirror. At mass priests warned their flock to beware her perversity: beautiful to look at but so diabolical! She can be recognised hiding her snake’s tail in the water. Im Monat Oktober 2017 ist die Inflationsrate in Luxemburg auf 1,9 Prozent gestiegen. Im Vormonat lag sie bei 1,76 Prozent. Das teilte Statec in einer Pressemeldung mit.
Verantwortlich für den Anstieg der Preise seien die Ölpreise, teilte das Luxemburger statistische Institut mit. Die Preise für Öl-Produkte seien seit drei Monaten wieder am steigen. Innerhalb eines Monats haben die Preise für Heizöl um 4,4 Prozent, und die für Diesel um 2,7 Prozent zugelegt.
Index erst im dritten Quartal 2018
Die höchsten Preissteigerungen auf Jahressicht hat Statec im Bereich Kultur und Freizeit (plus 3,61 Prozent) gemessen. Am zweitstärksten zugelegt haben dabei die Preise für Lebensmitteln und nicht-alkoholischen Getränken. Innerhalb von einem Jahr sind die Preise hier um 3,31 Prozent gestiegen.
Der einzige Bereich in dem das statistische Institut Preisrückgänge gemessen hat, ist die Kommunikation. Hier müssen die Kunden für das gleiche Produkt/Dienstleistung heute im Schnitt 3,43 Prozent weniger zahlen als noch vor einem Jahr.
Innerhalb eines Jahres sind Lebensmittel in Luxemburg 3,31 Prozent teurer geworden Als Folge der neuen Prognosen wurde das geschätzte Datum für das Auszahlen der nächsten Index-Tranche (die Gehaltsempfänger für die Geldentwertung entschädigen soll) auf das dritte Quartal 2018 verlegt.
Bisher wurde damit gerechnet, dass sie zwischen dem zweiten und dritten Quartal 2018 fällig werden könnte.
Die letzte Index-Tranche war am Anfang dieses Jahres angefallen.

ELTRONA Warteschlange nach Umstellung. Alles digital, alles gut? Seit diesem Montag verbreitet der Luxemburger Kabelanbieter Eltrona keine analogen Sender mehr in seinem Netz. Aber: Offenbar sind noch lange nicht alle Kunden auf die digitale Variante des Angebots umgestiegen. Das zeigte auch die lange Kundenschlange, die sich nach der Umstellung vor der Filiale von Eltrona in der Escher Kanalstraße gebildet hatte. Vor allem ältere Menschen waren gekommen, um sich ein sogenanntes CAM-Modul oder einen Decoder zu besorgen. Nur mit diesen Geräten ist der digitale Fernsehempfang überhaupt möglich. Ein weiteres Ärgernis für die Eltrona-Kunden: Auch Radioprogramme gibt es in den Kabelnetzen nur noch digital, weshalb mit traditionellen Stereoanlagen lediglich per Anschluss an den TV-Decoder Radio gehört werden kann. Der eingebaute UKW-Tuner ist nur noch mit Außenantenne nutzbar. Vollständig digital bedeutet zwar noch mehr Programme, aber auch, dass Kunden unter Umständen nicht mehr gleichzeitig fernsehen und Radio hören können, da der benötigte Decoder jeweils nur in einer der beiden Funktionen arbeitet.

La carte myCard de la nouvelle génération porte le logo mKaart. C'est une carte multifonctionnelle sur laquelle vous pouvez charger les produits de la Mobilitéitszentral, tels que les titres de transport (mPass, carnets, abonnements mensuels, billets courte durée, ...), l‘accès aux parcs à vélos mBox, le service Chargy (accès aux bornes de charge publiques pour les voitures électriques) etc. . Donc, vous n'avez plus besoin de plusieurs cartes!
En tant que mKaart, la carte myCard est valable sur tout le réseau luxembourgeois des transports publics. Elle perd automatiquement sa validité mKaart après 5 ans et doit ensuite être échangée. Unabhängig, kritisch, investigativ und partizipativ. So würden viele Journalisten ihre Vorstellung von hochwertiger journalistischer Arbeit zusammenfassen. Im bestehenden medialen Angebot hatten Christoph Bumb und Laurence Bervard dennoch das Gefühl, dass einiges zu kurz komme. So wollen die ehemaligen "Wort"-Journalisten mit einer eigenen Online-Plattform an der Start gehen. "Reporter" heißt das digitale Magazin. Das besondere daran: Zunächst müssen wenigstens 1.000 Abonnenten herangezogen werden, damit das Projekt zustande kommt.
"Unser Konzept wird von keiner Partei, keinem wirtschaftlichen Aktionär beeinflusst. Wir verstecken uns nicht hinter Investoren", sagt Geschäftsführer und Gründer Christoph Bumb. Das Magazin soll in einer ersten Phase ausschließlich über Crowdfunding finanziert werden. Sprich die Leser zahlen für Analysen und Hintergrundberichte.

The Science Festival Luxembourg will be returning with its 11th edition from 9 to 12 November 2017, offering over 50 workshops for science lovers.
Organised by the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) and the National Research Fund (FNR), the purpose of the annual Science Festival is to present and promote science and research in Luxembourg and to encourage young people and the public to become interested in, experiment with and discuss science and technology.
This year’s Science Festival will offer even more activities and shows than previous years with a total of 56 workshops, 8 interactive shows and 2 exhibitions held at Neumünster Abbey and the 'natur museum'.
For four days, scientists, researchers, mediators and visitors are called to discover, communicate, interact and have fun together. During the first two days, Thursday and Friday, primary and secondary school classes can participate, after registration, in the numerous workshops and shows. When we think of mobile phone 4G networks, we generally think of fast internet connections, but actual speeds can vary widely from country to country. Did you know that Luxembourg has the sixth fastest 4G in the world?
The data was revealed in a report entitled "The State of LTE" released for November by OpenSignal showing the status of 4G (or LTE - Long Term Evolution) networks worldwide per country.
Singapore is reported to boast the fastest 4G network in the world at 46.64Mbps (megabits per second), followed by South Korea, Norway, Hungary and Netherlands.
Luxembourg's respectable ranking in sixth place recorded a speed of 36.56Mbps, ahead of its neighbours. Belgium scored six places below the Grand Duchy, with France and Germany much further down the list. Mehr Menschen mit Diplom
Ende 2016 hatte dagegen jeder fünfte Arbeitslose einen Hochschulabschluss. Der Anteil der Arbeitslosen mit einem Hochschulabschluss ist binnen 16 Jahren von 10,4 auf 19,3 Prozent gestiegen. Das geht aus Zahlenreihen hervor, die die “Chambre des salariés” (CSL) zusammengestellt hat. Und während der Anteil der Arbeitslosen mit Sekundarschulabschluss in derselben Zeit relativ stabil geblieben ist, sank der Anteil der Arbeitslosen mit niedrigem Bildungsstand von 53,8 auf 41 Prozent.
Dazu ist natürlich anzumerken, dass Luxemburg zu den Ländern gehört, in denen mittlerweile sehr viele Menschen einen Hochschulabschluss haben. In Luxemburg verfügen rund 40 Prozent der Menschen zwischen 25 und 64 Jahren über einen Hochschulabschluss. Das geht aus einem Bericht der internationalen Organisation OECD hervor. In dieser Altersgruppe verfügen 13 Prozent über einen Bachelorabschluss, 18 Prozent über einen Masterabschluss und zwei Prozent haben promoviert. Sieben Prozent haben einen Hochschulabschluss, den die OECD geringer als einen Bachelorabschluss listet. LuxTrust enables the first e-signing of an EU legislative act

On Wednesday 25 October, EP President Antonio Tajani and Matti Maasikas, of the Estonian Presidency of the Council, signed electronically the first EU legislative act, legally-binding texts of the revised regulation on “Security of gas supply”.
European Parliament President Antonio Tajani was equipped with a LuxTrust smartcard, enabling him to produce a qualified e-signature, the only signature having the equivalent legal effect of a handwritten signature.
“I am happy that today we can sign such an important Regulation electronically(…) The European Parliament in its report on e-government in May this year asked the EU institutions to set an example in the area of e-government. Today we are acting on our own call. This signature is a demonstration on how digital solutions can work in practice,” said Mr Tajani.
This is an additional step in the implementation of eIDAS regulation, enabling secure and seamless electronic interactions between businesses, citizens and public authorities within Europe, thanks to digital trust services.

It is a new way of acting that will speed-up business processes, improve level of service and make people save paper, time and money, while embracing security and trust. Luxembourg is further developing exchanges in the area of financial services with South Korea.
Luxembourg for Finance (LFF)-- the agency for the development of Luxembourg's financial centre -- has entered a partnership agreement with Seoul's metropolitan government and Financial Hub Korea, it was announced on Tuesday.
LFF CEO Nicholas Mackel said in a statement that the deal was designed to promote Seoul's role as a leading Asian financial centre, as well as Luxembourg's role as a platform for Korean fund managers in Europe.
The Grand-Duchy has built strong business relations with South Korea. Luxembourg domiciled funds represent 92% of foreign funds admitted for distribution in the country.
