Learning doesn't have to be a "loner" experience.

Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky suggested that knowledge is constructed through our interactions with others.
MOOCs (Massive Open Online Learning) leverage our inherent social needs by bringing people together to learn the same material in a virtual group. Students can express what they're feeling and experiencing with others in a shared space, making the learning journey more enjoyable and less daunting.

As people gain confidence, they often enjoy friendly competition with fellow learners to push themselves to compete exercises and assignments. Recognition is part of our need for building self-esteem—and some courses have gamification built in to reward student accomplishments and community helpfulness.

How to transform schools into Learning Organisations?

How to transform schools into Learning Organisations? | Educational Digital Resources | Scoop.it
Schools nowadays are required to learn faster than ever before in order to deal effectively with the growing pressures of a rapidly changing environment. Many schools however, look much the same today as they did a generation ago, and too many teachers are not developing the pedagogies and practices required to meet the diverse needs of 21st-century learners.

In response, a growing body of scholars, educators and policy makers around the world is making the case that schools should be re-conceptualised as “learning organisations” that can react more quickly to changing external environments, embrace innovations in internal organisation, and ultimately improve student outcomes. Despite strong support for and the intuitive appeal of the school as a learning organisation, relatively little progress has been made in advancing the concept, either in research or practice. This lack of progress partly stems from a lack of clarity or common understanding of the school as learning organisation.

Digital Note Taking Strategies That Deepen Student Thinking | Educational Digital Resources | Scoop.it
Organization is a critical academic skill and one that many students struggle with in both the physical and digital worlds. Parents and teachers already help students get organized and now need to extend that to the digital world. Given the influx of technology in their academic lives, students need to develop an effective organizational system for their digital notes, projects and thinking.

One challenge facing educational start-ups is that many technologists don’t have real world teaching experience or have been out of the school system for so long that they’re out of touch with the classroom experience. THINKING CLASSROOM PHILOSOPHY IN 4 QUESTIONS

What ?

Teach learners how to think and learn Discover, value and use learners' strengths and interests
Combine the best new educational practices with the best traditional ones
Build and enrich learning relationships
Develop growth mindset characteristics and grit

Why ?

Because learners need knowledge, flexible skills and grit to succeed
Because future economic & life success depends on skills and creativity
Because everyone learns in a unique way
Because education must continually prepare learners for an exciting but uncertain future
Because of Article 13a, UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

How ?

By continually increasing the effectiveness of teaching
By teaching for character as well as content
By valuing each learner for what they do well
By educating for skills, character and values as well as knowledge
By preparing learners for their futures not our pasts
By valuing, supporting and resourcing all educators

What if...

All learners were engaged, excited and interested in their lessons?
'School' evolved to match different lifestyles and different learning styles?
Teachers had time to enjoy their profession and real opportunities to thrive?
There was only one initiative and it was called "Learning"?

Bitcoin Rival Launches in Volatile First Day | #CryptoCurrency #BitcoinCash #ICT | Educational Digital Resources | Scoop.it
Bitcoin Cash, a tweaked version of the digital currency created by one side in an industry rift, started trading Tuesday. If it wants to be bitcoin’s equal, it is about 10% of the way there.

Most digital currency exchanges and services at this point aren’t supporting Bitcoin Cash. One exchange that is, China-based ViaBTC, has been allowing trading in the coin even before it goes live. On that basis, Bitcoin Cash was most recently trading at about 11% of a bitcoin’s value, roughly in line with traders’ projections in the days leading up to the launch.

With the original bitcoin trading at around $2,750, Bitcoin Cash was worth around $300. Another virtual currency tracker, Coinmarket.com, showed Bitcoin Cash falling to about $242 from a high of about $400 in volatile trading.
