Picting, not Writing, is the Literacy of Today’s Youth -- THE Journal | Learning & Technology News | Scoop.it
Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest are among the most popular websites and apps on Planet Earth. Those websites support "picting" — using images to communicate. • Outside the K–12 classroom, today’s youth spend 90 percent of the time with image-based materials and 10 percent of the time with text-based materials."

[PDF] Realising the potential of technology in education: A strategy for education providers and the technology industry

[PDF] Realising the potential of technology in education: A strategy for education providers and the technology industry | Learning & Technology News | Scoop.it
It can be hard for leaders to understand how technology can support positive change and teachers are often told to just 'find a way to integrate technology or devices in the classroom'. It can be difficult for education leaders to separate evidence-based practice and products from a vast range of gimmicks. This strategy starts to address these challenges.

"Despite their many positive qualities, "today's students are also the most self-centered, competitive, individualistic, sad, and stressed on record," writes educational psychologist Michele Borba. Find out how some schools and educators are working to change course by integrating empathy and other "soft skills" into lessons and routines--and why it matters to students' futures. "
