When I read this article, I was immediately struck by the 5 principles listed -- because they are the same for storytelling that builds a strong culture. This is leadership work at a fundamental level. Even better, these principles aren't coming from some leadership guru but someone in the trenches.

 

Principle #2 gives a great activity to spark storytelling and build inclusiveness.

 

Principle #3 highlights empathy and that all change begins a conversation.

 

Principle #4 speaks to the power of appreciation.

 

Principle #5 speaks to using icons and artifacts as reminders of what is important.

Culture is like air quality. You can hardly see it, but you can feel its effect on your lungs. When it is light, dynamic and regenerative, you can feel its freshness in your breath; when it is heavy, awkward and lumbering, you want to put on a mask as not to breath in that toxic air.

As the World Health Organization reports a handful of countries’ such as Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland applaudable success in containing covid-19, governments are slowly beginning to relax restrictions on movement and economic activity. In these countries, a number of multi-national and local companies are getting ready to launch a protocol for “new ways of working” and culture is quickly becoming a hot topic.

This is an expected development given the change caused by external circumstances and the new realities we find ourselves in. Unfortunately, company cultures do not mature in the same way we develop a new practice, process or a policy used for assisting operational intricacies. Culture requires a sense of evolution that’s very different than evolving a way of working by a mandate or a command from above.

#1 trend is greater personalization. So true. The other trends are voice-activated content, using the Omni-channel, and incorporating AI into creating stronger connections.
