I've been in organizations that had great leadership at the top.  Also seen terrible leadership all the way up the management hierarchy.  Definitely agree that organizations need to foster and develop cooperation and collaboration and that on its own, top-down hierarchical management is ineffective.

 

There's a place for both great leadership and employee empowerment that facilitates cooperation and collaboration.  These two, working together, are extremely powerful and drive  employee engagement, job satisfaction, and results.
