TIVERTON — Eighth-grade science teacher Maria Clarey stood in the middle of a darkened classroom in the middle school.
The overhead lights were turned off. The only light came from the large square mat that covers most of the room’s floor. It was illuminated.
As Clarey walked on and around the mat, she waved two “wands” and demonstrated the task she was about to have her students complete.
“There’s nothing really special about these wands,” Clarey said
