Egyptian judges strike against Mohamed Morsi

Egyptian judges strike against Mohamed Morsi | Truth Revealed | Scoop.it

Since Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi gave himself sweeping powers last week, the entire country has been in an uproar. Protests are occurring more frequently, especially considering how polarized the political atmosphere was before Morsi’s decrees. There was heavy tension between the Islamists and secular groups, as Morsi (the Islamist candidate) had only taken the Presidency with a 51% majority.

So, when Morsi hoped to create an autocracy for himself, 49% of the country of Egypt went up in arms, including other branches of the Egyptian government. Judges, outraged by the power-grab, have gone on strikes in protest against the Morsi regime. This, says the New York Times, is often an effective move to spark more protests:

As the Judges Club met in the High Court building, a small crowd of protesters outside chanted that Egypt’s judges were “a red line.” When another group armed with the flares favored by hard-core soccer fans tried to force their way into the building, the police fired tear gas.

Under the old tyrant, Hosni Mubarak, Egypt saw the first of the revolutions that eventually spread through the Middle East. The country, however, still seems to be at war. Even though a ‘government’ was put in place by the US State Department, it has not yet achieved peace and stability in the country. Now, Morsi’s new actions are threatening any diplomatic progress that had been made. The struggle seems to be ongoing and growing worse, as the country’s judges pound the regime with open protest:

The condemnation came from an array of organizations. The Supreme Council of the Judiciary called the decree “an unprecedented attack on judicial independence” and urged the president to rescind it. A major association of judges, the Judges Club, called for a strike by courts across Egypt. The leader of the national lawyers’ association endorsed the call.

With such outrage, it remains to be seen if Morsi will retract the decree, or whether or not the Obama administration will openly condemn Morsi’s new actions, as the EU and UN have done already.

CBS’ Lara Logan Speaks Out, Says Islamists Hate Us Now More Than Ever

CBS’ Lara Logan Speaks Out, Says Islamists Hate Us Now More Than Ever | Truth Revealed | Scoop.it

-----

We can never appease true-believing Muslims. They will never stop hating us. Their hatred and belief they are destined to conquer the entire planet is built into their religion. They can only be stopped by the complete destruction of Islam.

Fortunately, we are capable of annihilating Islam on the ideological battlefield. Unfortunately, we have yet to even take the first step in that direction. Until Americans wake up, cast off the chains of political correctness, and start calling Islam exactly what it is, a vile and murderous creed, we will continue to lose this war both ideologically and militarily.

-----

(The Blaze) Blaze readers are likely familiar with CBS correspondent, Lara Logan, the wartime journalist who endured a horrific ordeal in Egypt last summer when she was beaten and sexually assaulted by a mob of angry Egyptian men during their Arab Spring “celebrations.” Now, Logan has a message for the public: “they” (the Taliban and other Islamic operatives) are as strong as ever.

During a recent keynote address at the Better Government Association annual luncheon last Tuesday, Logan delivered what the Chicago Sun Times called “a provocative speech” to some 1,100 movers in government, politics, media, and the legal and corporate arenas. She explained that the Taliban, al Qaeda and its proxies haven’t gone away and are in fact re-energized and coming back in force. Logan also informed the crowd that a “lie” is being propagated by the American government.

“I chose this subject because, one, I can’t stand, that there is a major lie being propagated…” Logan announced. The lie is that the U.S. military has tamed the Taliban.

“There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years,” Logan began. It is driven in part by “Taliban apologists,“ who claim ”they are just the poor moderate, gentler, kinder Taliban.”

“It’s such nonsense!”

The Sun Times continues:

Logan stepped way out of the “objective,” journalistic role. The audience was riveted as she told of plowing through reams of documents, and interviewing John Allen, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan; Afghan President Hamid Karzai, and a Taliban commander trained by al-Qaida. The Taliban and al-Qaida are teaming up and recruiting new terrorists to do us deadly harm, she reports. [...] She made a passionate case that our government is downplaying the strength of our enemies in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as a rationale of getting us out of the longest war.

Logan went on to say that people have been duped into believing that the threat of radical Islam is merely a thing of the past, saying:

“You’re not listening to what the people who are fighting you say about this fight. In your arrogance, you think you write the script.” continue reading

Israel-Hamas talks leave future of Gaza blockade cloudy

Israel-Hamas talks leave future of Gaza blockade cloudy | Truth Revealed | Scoop.it
Hamas, the Islamist group that controls the coastal strip, persuaded Gazans to support its confrontation with Israel in part by vowing repeatedly that it would keep fighting until the controversial blockade was lifted.

So many were surprised Wednesday night when the Egyptian-brokered cease-fire included only vague promises to discuss easing restrictions on goods and people at a later date.

A Hamas official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said the group received private assurances from Egypt that the Rafah crossing to the Sinai Peninsula, which currently permits limited movement of people, will be expanded to include goods, and that Israel agreed not to object.

Israelis, who are worried that opening the borders will allow Hamas to rearm itself, don't want to talk about the subject until after it's clear that the cease-fire is holding.
