"The Smithsonian Institution is sometimes referred to as "America's attic." In true form, it offers a treasure trove of fine educational resources and lesson plans based on its vast collections. Fortunately for educators, these materials are now available online via this well-designed and useful site. Visitors to the site can browse the lesson plans by subject area, grade level, or keyword. To get started, visitors can scan the This Month's Top 10 list of plans to see what other users are enjoying. Some of the plans featured recently include "The Music in Poetry," "Abraham Lincoln, the Face of War," and "Prehistoric Climate Change And Why It Matters Today." The IdeaLabs bring history, science and art to life for young people. These stand-alone units are meant to be used by younger students to learn about the history of sculpture, geology, the Apollo 11 mission, and much more."

Our role as teachers is not only depositing the knowledge in our students, it is our duty as a part of the learning process to assess that cognitive growth; moreover, applying an assessment to their learning progress help us to identify their weaknesses as well as our mistakes in the teaching process. Therefore, this article provides us useful information to keep in mind those aspects with assessment and evaluation in the classroom.

"The 2012 K12 Online Conference starts today. If you’re not familiar with it, K12Online is a great, FREE professional development opportunity featuring recorded videos you can view on your computer, smartphone, or tablet. The conference has four strands (two per week) and this week starts with the “Getting Started” and “Visioning New Curriculum” strands. Each day for the next two weeks, four video presentations will be published per day. A “summary post” (like this one) is shared each day of the conference with links to that day’s presentations. Each presentation video is embedded on its own post with links to an iPod-friendly video version, a mp3 audio-only version, and supporting/related links the presenter has shared.

 

"Stay up to date as conference presentations publish starting at 8 am Eastern time each day by following the conference on Twitter (@k12online), FaceBook, and subscribing to the conference email list. You can also subscribe to conference videos in iTunesU if you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch!

 

"All presentations for the entire conference are linked on the 2012 presentation schedule. Use and follow the Twitter hashtag #k12online12 to participate in conversations throughout and following this year’s conference."
