Joining efforts to make inclusive business the ‘new normal’ can help build more resilient and equitable societies

 

But how can inclusive business models be identified effectively by governments, investors, and companies? Over the past months, the Istanbul International Centre for Private Sector Development, Business Call to Action (BCtA) and the Inclusive Business Action Network (iBAN) have taken the initiative to address this issue. Building on the 2015 G20 Inclusive Business Framework and its definition of inclusive business, the organisations collaborated to develop the Inclusive Business Operating Guidelines that aim to establish a commonly agreed understanding of inclusive business.

Working with the private sector to unlock finance for development Australia’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) can play an important role in catalysing private finance for development across the Indo-Pacific. Blended finance, including by using loans, guarantees and equity, and working in partnership with impact investors, is playing an increasingly important role in supporting inclusive economic growth in Australia’s region. In line with Partnerships for Recovery, DFAT is exploring new ways to work with business and investors using new tools and approaches, building on our existing experience.

 

Markets Impact Investment Fund (EMIIF), established on 1 July 2020, is Australia’s newest and most innovative approaches to development financing. EMIIF will strengthen and grow hundreds of high impact SMEs across Southeast Asia and the Pacific, helping our region to recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What university entrepreneurship can bring to the post-COVID world

University-led, scientific entrepreneurship has contributed to the fight against COVID-19 and must play a lead role in the global response to the pandemic.

 

As economic agents, what new long-term, sustainable, and inclusive business models are needed to maintain the benefits of an intensely connected world, when those connections are medically and politically challenged? There are no simple solutions to such questions, and answers will require thousands of entrepreneurial experiments. Entrepreneurs will take risks investing in opportunities and, while many will fail, some will have a profound impact.
