One of classical homeopathy’s main tenets is that susceptibility MUST be addressed in order for chronic disease and its acute flare-ups to be definitely addressed. Susceptibility is highly individualized, different in every case, and involves internal and external factors, as well as material and nonmaterial dimensions.

Chronic disease is largely an enigma for orthodox medicine, which has focused on material, chemical solutions that can only ever treat symptoms. Dietary and lifestyle factors may trigger inflammation, and environmental toxicities may play a part - but it is estimated that 95% of chronic disease is stress related: therefore emotional and spiritual or non-material. The cause is not the stressors per se but the individual's susceptibility to those stressors. It is the perceived stress that is the issue, closely tied in with the patient's sense of self and identity and responses hard-wired by past trauma. A new study on the homeopathic treatment of depression and hot flushes in menopausal women was just published in one of the most respected medical journals in the world. This study was randomized, double-dummy, double-blind and placebo controlled. It showed that homeopathy was significantly more effective than both placebo AND fluoxetine. And yet it would have been rejected as worthless by the recent Australian NHMRC investigation into homeopathy, because it had only 133 participants, not 150! When patients come to see us for their various problems and we give them a homeopathic remedy, unless they are familiar with the concepts of homeopathy, we often face questions that are difficult to answer succinctly. What is this and what are the ingredients and what does it do? Homeopathy is not physical medicine - it is energetic - and there is no physical substance left. All homeopathic remedies work in the same way, on the homeopathic principle. Therefore in a true sense it matters little what the remedy is, at least as far as that would matter if it was a drug or a herb, because there is no physical substance remaining. It has no properties of itself unless it is prescribed on the homeopathic principle - "like cures like". This is one of the best patient-friendly explanations I have seen...
