Illinois Psychologists Can Expect CE Requirements « PDResources

Illinois Psychologists Can Expect CE Requirements « PDResources | Healthcare Continuing Education | Scoop.it
The word is out that the Illinois Board of Psychology has mandated continuing education (CE) for licensed-psychologists. The requirement is expected to begin after the 2012 licensure renewal period.

Illinois-licensed psychologists renew their licenses on September 30th of even-numbered years and previously had no requirement to obtain continuing education credits in order to renew.

The Illinois Psychological Association took an active role in forming the language of the law so “we could make sure it made sense” according to Cheryl Hurst, PsyD, an Illinois-licensed psychologist.

The purpose of continuing education is to provide for the continuing professional education of all psychologists to protect the public from the practice of psychology by unqualified persons and from unprofessional conduct by persons licensed to practice psychology.

There is currently no information regarding the soon-to-be required CE on either the Board or IPA website. More info will be added as it becomes available.

Happy All Fool’s Day! « PDResources

Happy All Fool’s Day! « PDResources | Healthcare Continuing Education | Scoop.it
Unlike most of the other nonfoolish holidays, the history of April Fool’s Day, sometimes called All Fool’s Day, is not totally clear. It is not like Halloween, where despite an interesting history, most people just put on Halloween costumes, get candy, and leave it at that. There really wasn’t a “first April Fool’s Day” that can be pinpointed on the calendar. Some believe it sort of evolved simultaneously in several cultures at the same time, from celebrations involving the first day of spring.

Emotional Overeating Awareness Month « PDResources

Emotional Overeating Awareness Month « PDResources | Healthcare Continuing Education | Scoop.it
Do you eat when you’re anxious? Does food make you feel better? If so, you may have been conditioned to turn to food for comfort. April is Emotional Overeating Awareness Month.

For many people, eating is something to do when you’re bored, tired, anxious or dealing with emotions. Often these behaviors can lead to overeating. But eating to cope with emotions can lead to more negative feelings (guilt, lack of personal control and poor self esteem) and perhaps to a cycle of mood-triggered eating.

If you would like to receive a FREE tip a day during Emotional Overeating Awareness Month to help you reduce or stop emotional overeating, visit Dr. Denise’s blog to sign up: http://emotionalovereatingawareness.com/
