This strategy benefits the student because at a young age the student's listening and speaking ability is superior to their own read and writing skills.

This article showed the use of poetry as a tool to teach a diverse classroom of learners. By using poetry it puts all the students on a "level" playing field by allowing them to visualize what is being said through repeated word patterns. They are able to pick up on the rythms and rhymes of the text. It also enhances vocabulary and gives the students an oppurtunity to grasp the meaning of words.
