Watch football in the comfort of your energy efficient home

Watch football in the comfort of your energy efficient home | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it
Many of our customers wonder if we still install new windows and doors during the colder months. The simple answer is yes!
The Scoop's insight:

Once you decide what window style or door you want, we will get your job in the pipeline.  We install year round, even when mother nature takes a turn toward the end of the year.  We won’t put windows in a home during a blizzard, but with Colorado’s fast changing weather we might be back on the job a day or two after!  Is it ideal?  No, it isn’t, but we never stop working.  We are here for our customers’ year round.  Even with service calls.

Most people want to do a replacement window or door project in the warmer months of the year.  Spring ramps up our busy season so leads time may get longer.  The fall can be a tradeoff – cooler weather but more attention.  In other words, you can do your project in the spring and summer, but there is noreason not to do it in the fall as well.

At Gravina's Window Center of Littleton, we think of the fall as the 4th quarter of the big game.  We keep on going until the end of the year and everyone wins.  Wouldn't you prefer to watch the big game in an energy efficient home?

26 Windows Broken — from Golf Balls?  Massachusetts family was awarded almost $5 MILLION

26 Windows Broken — from Golf Balls?  Massachusetts family was awarded almost $5 MILLION | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

A Massachusetts family was awarded almost $5 MILLION after their home -- which sits on a country club -- was trashed after it was repeatedly hit with golf balls, smashing 26 windows ... the family's attorney confirmed to TMZ Sports.

Seven hundred golf balls were not included when the Tenczars bought their $750,000 Kingston home.

But neither were the broken windows, dented siding, and gunshot-sounding golf ball hits that turned their dream home into a nightmare, according to The Boston Globe

The couple decided to pursue legal action and sued their neighbors at the Indian Pond Country Club for trespass over the continual bombardment, the paper reports. In December, a jury granted the Tenczars $3.5 million for damages and emotional and mental suffering after a six-day trial, according to the Globe.

Dreamstyle Awarded $7 Million in Lawsuit Against Renewal by Andersen

Dreamstyle Awarded $7 Million in Lawsuit Against Renewal by Andersen | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

Photo by Ksenia Chernaya from Pexels

Three years following Dreamstyle Remodeling’s filing of a $240 million lawsuit against Renewal by Andersen based on wrongful contract termination, an arbitration panel has awarded Dreamstyle $7 million. The relationship between the two brands began in 2006, when Larry Chavez, then owner of Albuquerque-based Dreamstyle, was offered the opportunity to become New Mexico’s exclusive dealer of Renewal by Andersen products, according to court documents. Over the next seven years, the relationship expanded to include markets in Arizona, Idaho, and California.

Dreamstyle leaders learned that its contract with Renewal was being canceled during a 12-minute meeting in May 2019 with Renewal executives, according to the lawsuit.

Dreamstyle filed two federal lawsuits in 2019 in California and New Mexico. Both suits were resolved by the arbitration panel.

The panel awarded Dreamstyle a total of $7,192,227 in damages and interest, Bluff said

The arbitration panel based its finding on Dreamstyle’s breach of contract and wrongful termination claims, he said.

NAHB Remodeler of the Year: Kurt Clason's Craftmanship

NAHB Remodeler of the Year: Kurt Clason's Craftmanship | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

Kurt Clason. | Photo: Allan Wolf – WolfReel Visuals

People were not Kurt Clason’s calling, initially.

Though he could talk someone’s ear off, his first career was engineering, where the most complex numbers and formulas became a second language to him. Yet learning to manage people took a little time. On paper, it may be unexpected that Clason, NAHB’s Remodeler of the Year, has made an overwhelmingly positive impression with that background, but in his personal and work relationships, it’s no surprise.

Clason opened Ossipee, New Hampshire-based Clason Remodeling, known then as K.A. Clason Fine Woodworking, in 2006 after retiring from the U.S. Coast Guard. His first focus included building and fixing island properties until the recession nudged him to expand into remodeling. Clason Remodeling has since settled into the title of the “Lakes Region’s premier remodeler.” It’s an inscription he and his team of 13 proudly wear on their shirts and show through their professionalism on the jobsite.

The title came to the company in 2019 when Clason decided to differentiate himself from surrounding Lakes Region builders and remodelers.

“We made the decision to change the name of the company then and instead focus solely on remodels,” Clason wrote in his Remodeler of the Year application. “There are several high-end new construction builders in the area, but all say that they also do remodels.”

That, his frame-to-finish process, and dedication to superior craftsmanship are what sets him apart from the local competition. Clason and his team work on three to five projects a year within the $500,000 to $1 million-plus range.

Much of the company’s work is renovating vacation homes for clients primarily from Massachusetts, New York, and California—the type of clientele who appreciate the most innovative products, design, and construction methods, something Clason makes a primary focus for himself and his crew. Continuing education, whether it’s through NAHB, local associations, or attending the International Builders’ Show, keeps Clason’s crew ahead of the rest.

Winter Home Maintenance Chores You Can’t Ignore

Winter Home Maintenance Chores You Can’t Ignore | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

Winter is here, and there are home maintenance chores that you can't ignore! From inspecting the roof to tuning the windows, ensuring your fire safety detectors are up to date, and saving energy, winter home maintenance keeps a roof over your head! Failing to inspect and tend to each job this season can turn into costly repair jobs in spring. Let's look at some of the necessities winter home maintenance brings for ensuring your family stays safe, warm, and secure all season long!

Winter home maintenance amounts to these 10 chores you must tackle during the chilliest time of the year. Listen to our special podcast for details.

The4 Seasons of Home Ownershipis Today’s Homeowner’s exclusive guide to easy home maintenance. We break down the most important chores into simple task lists for the spring, summer, fall and winter.

In thewinter, here are some of those chores:

You should change your air filter every 90 days.(DepositPhotos)

Change heating system filters. The most wonderful time of the year shouldn’t be the most miserable in your home because it’s so cold! Change your filters and get a professional furnace inspection to make sure the system is ready for increased demand.

Clean the kitchen range hood filter. Your range hood removes airborne grease, fumes and smoke after cooking, boosting indoor air quality. But it’s only as effective as its filter. Before a big holiday dinner, remove the filter and clean it.

A clean baseboard heater is one with optimal efficiency and peak performance.

Clean all baseboard heaters. If you have a baseboard heating system, you know it’s a magnet for dust, pet dander and hair, among other things. Clean it once a year to keep the system in peak performance.

Urban spelunking: Plymouth Church UCC's nine Tiffany windows

Urban spelunking: Plymouth Church UCC's nine Tiffany windows | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

Stained Glass Windows

We all know that windows are there for certain things: to allow light in, offer security, protect us from the elements and offer a view of what's outside. But some stained glass designs have additional purposes; they may be used as symbols or storytelling tools to teach us about the culture behind them. With that being said, this essay about the Plymouth Church UCC's Tiffany windows is fascinating:

Step inside Plymouth Church UCC, 2717 E. Hampshire St. - designed by Alexander Eschweiler as a replacement for the congregation's previous Edward Townsend Mix-designed house of worship Downtown - and you will likely find it difficult to ignore the nine Tiffany Studios windows that adorn the sanctuary.

“The collection of signed Tiffany windows, depicting episodes in the life of Jesus, are our greatest artistic treasure,” the church’s website notes. “As you look at the windows, please note the play of light, the drapery of the glass, and that all of the facial features, hands, and feet are painted.

“As you look at each window, with the wooden tracery, you have the effect of looking through them to a scene ‘out there.’ And here, you can be on eye level with the windows to study them closely, even the largest over the balcony. The story begins in the southeast corner of the sanctuary and moves clockwise around the sanctuary.”

New Windows Drive Up Home Value | Energy Star Standards Help Glass Upgrades Pay for Themselves

New Windows Drive Up Home Value | Energy Star Standards Help Glass Upgrades Pay for Themselves | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

“Windows have a great payback,” - EPA Analyst Doug Anderson

NEW WINDOWS DRIVE UP HOME VALUE

Anderson said many factors are at play right now that impact manufacturing, including inflation and supply chain issues, yet one thing remains constant. “Windows have a great payback,” he said. “If someone puts new windows in and sells their house, they are going to get a lot of that money back.”

The EPA sought feedback on applying window criteria to full-lite sliding patio doors in the Energy Star Discussion Guide. "We found patio doors with a large area lite with a frame are more like windows in design, match the look and feel with windows and use similar glass packages as windows," he said.

Public comments on draft 2 specifications are due March 28, with a final draft tentatively due in May or June of 2022. “The EPA hopes to finalize a report in June or July, with an effective date one year later,” Anderson said. “Companies are all over the spectrum. Some are ready to go. Others have many certified options that could get the version 7.0 numbers. We feel one year is reasonable.”

Why burned out millennials are moving to Portugal to Buy a Home

Why burned out millennials are moving to Portugal to Buy a Home | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

Portugal is cheaper than many Western nations

Alexandra Ryan-Yavaşca needed to cool down in her childhood hometown of San Diego, California, to lift a household together with her husband Utku.

However resulting from hovering housing prices, the 34-year-old cannot afford to reside there like her dad and mom — a trainer and public relations skilled — may on middle-class salaries. Her childhood dwelling, bought in 1996 for greater than $300,000, is now worth more than $1.2 million.

In the summertime of 2021, the Yavaşcas moved to Lisbon, Portugal, citing the reasonably priced cost-of-living and laid-back tradition as key causes.

“It is liberating to go away America,” Alexandra says. “The place can you reside within the middle of town in America and have a look at the ocean and eat recent seafood and work in your freelance entrepreneur way of life?”

Alexandra and Utku Yavaşca could not afford to settle in her childhood hometown of San Diego, California, so that they moved to Portugal.

The Yavaşcas are a part of a wave of expats and digital nomads settling in Portugal in the hunt for a greater life. The number of foreign citizens living in Portugal — greater than 714,000 — is at an all-time excessive, making up about 7% of the inhabitants in 2021, in response to the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service.

The number of Americans residing in Portugal is at its highest degree in additional than a decade, in response to company information. There have been about 7,000 People dwelling within the nation on the finish of 2021, greater than double three years earlier. The U.S. is the 24th most represented country amongst overseas residents in Portugal.

Because the pandemic and distant work remodel the best way we reside and work, persons are transferring and altering careers primarily based on what fulfills them most.

9 Questions to Ask When Shopping for Replacement Windows

9 Questions to Ask When Shopping for Replacement Windows | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

  • When choosing what the best replacement windows for homes is, the best thing you can do is ask.  The internet is full of recommendations and window buying guides, but most of the time you might just need to ask a window expert.  Your installer should be an authority in their field and know what window products are the best. In Colorado specifically, we have unique weather conditions that require special substrates and treatment to our windows to make them effective against our harsh weather conditions. A fiberglass window is the best solution for our climate, and not all fiberglass windows are made equally. Ask your installer about how the window is crafted, what gas and coatings are on the glass itself, what the substrate of the window frame is made from. All of these details are important in understanding the lifespan of your window. With all that being said we recommend the Infinity from Marvin window.
