Watch football in the comfort of your energy efficient home

Watch football in the comfort of your energy efficient home | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it
Many of our customers wonder if we still install new windows and doors during the colder months. The simple answer is yes!
The Scoop's insight:

Once you decide what window style or door you want, we will get your job in the pipeline.  We install year round, even when mother nature takes a turn toward the end of the year.  We won’t put windows in a home during a blizzard, but with Colorado’s fast changing weather we might be back on the job a day or two after!  Is it ideal?  No, it isn’t, but we never stop working.  We are here for our customers’ year round.  Even with service calls.

Most people want to do a replacement window or door project in the warmer months of the year.  Spring ramps up our busy season so leads time may get longer.  The fall can be a tradeoff – cooler weather but more attention.  In other words, you can do your project in the spring and summer, but there is noreason not to do it in the fall as well.

At Gravina's Window Center of Littleton, we think of the fall as the 4th quarter of the big game.  We keep on going until the end of the year and everyone wins.  Wouldn't you prefer to watch the big game in an energy efficient home?

Protecting Your Home From Thieves

Protecting Your Home From Thieves | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

Simply by locking your doors and windows, upgrading your locks, and adding a few lights or flowering plants, you can take an active role in decreasing the vulnerability of your home.

A robbery is reported every 20 seconds in America. The U.S. Department of Justice establishes home burglary as “unlawful entry or attempted entry of a residence.” This offense usually, but not always, includes stealing. Of all the significant criminal offenses, household burglary is the most frequent.

What are the Best Windows for Colorado's Climate?

What are the Best Windows for Colorado's Climate? | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it
Colorado temperatures may fluctatute, but fiberglass won't. We recommend Infinity fiberglass windows designed for our climate and Built for Life!
The Scoop's insight:

Colorado's weather can be hard on anyone and anything, windows included. The climate in the state varies often. Half of the state is made up of mountains and foothills, with temperatures staying cooler in springtime, summertime, and fall and falling very low in winter, but there are also hot desert regions. One of the most critical roles windows play is to defend the home against the weather and control the thermal balance inside the home. Hence, the area's best windows provide energy-efficiency that matches Colorado's climate conditions.  That being said this article makes a good case for fiberglass windows from Infinity.

If your home was built before 1978, there is a good chance it has lead-based paint. Colorado Home and Garden Show builds business connections for vendors

Colorado Home and Garden Show builds business connections for vendors | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it
The Colorado Home and Garden Show provides gives more than 600 companies a chance to showcase their products and interact with clientele.
The Scoop's insight:

Vendors sowed seeds of home improvement at the 2016 Colorado Garden & Home Show, which kicked off Saturday and lasts until Feb. 21.

The event is a marketing marvel for more than 600 companies that filled the Colorado Convention Center in Denver to showcase a variety of products ranging from garden tools to window treatments.

"For a lot of the businesses here, it's the only marketing they do all year," said Jim Fricke, executive director of the Colorado Garden Foundation. "They use it to jump-start their companies and meet customers."

Laura Heath, owner of Town & Country Landscaping, said the show put her company on the map. She's been exhibiting her landscapes there since 2005. This year, her company was responsible for the 5,500-square-foot entry garden.

Heath said most of her clients can be traced back to the home and garden show.

"Each garden show provides about 90 percent of our business for the year," Heath said. "If it's not from the garden show, it probably came from a previous show."

Why Is The Demand for Build-to-Rent Homes Growing?

Why Is The Demand for Build-to-Rent Homes Growing? | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

Have you noticed a rising trend of build-to-rent homes? Here's your guide to what they are and why they have become increasingly popular.

What is Build to Rent?

Build-to-Rent is a real estate model where builders envision housing intended for use as a rental property.

The build-to-rent (BTR) trend gathers steam each day and shows no sign of slowing. But many people confuse the inner functioning of the market and might not see what sets it apart. This essay will demystify build-to-rent for the ordinary investor. Build-to-rent is flourishing because of solid math — not flippant fads.

Insulating Glass Keeps Getting Better -

Insulating Glass Keeps Getting Better - | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

Since the introduction of the insulating glass unit (IGU), there have been steady advancements in window assemblies that improve a home's thermal performance.

You walk in a window showroom, and start talking to a salesperson about energy efficiency. He explains all the advantages and intricacies of the IG unit to you. If you are like most of us, he has lost you already with that acronym. IG stands for insulating glass and it’s what keeps the heat from coming in through your window in the summer and the cold out in the winter.

So what is insulating glass?  Insulating glass refers to glass that is made to prevent significant heat transfer into or out of a home or building. It consists of multiple pieces of glass separated by spacers made of either metal, such as aluminum, or structural foam. The space between the glass is sometimes filled with a noble gas, such as argon or krypton. Insulating glass is often abbreviated IG and is sometimes called double-glazed or double-pane glass. As technology evolves, triple-paned or quadruple-paned glass is now available as well.

Key Housing Provisions in $900 Billion Relief Bill

Key Housing Provisions in $900 Billion Relief Bill | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it

A $900 billion economic relief bill passed by Congress includes key housing provisions championed by NAHB.

NAHB worked closely with Democratic and Republican congressional leaders to ensure the recovery legislation addresses three major builder concerns:
 1.    Provides relief for small businesses from burdensome loan forgiveness requirements.
 2.    Helps struggling renters and landlords with dedicated rental assistance.
 3.    Assists HBAs that have largely been excluded from previous relief measures.

The final package covers these three areas and contains several other policy objectives that NAHB has championed, including a permanent minimum 4% credit floor on low-income housing tax credits that will allow multifamily developers to finance thousands of additional affordable rental units and an extension of temporary tax provisions for newly-built energy-efficient homes and for home owners who engage in remodeling activities.

Today’s Unbelievably Good Housing Market, Explained | Builder Magazine

Today’s Unbelievably Good Housing Market, Explained | Builder Magazine | Replacement Window Advisor | Scoop.it
Thanks to three key drivers of demand, housing has been on a rocket ship trajectory after bottoming out earlier this year.
The Scoop's insight:

Housing is the brightest spot in the U.S. economy now, but a key issue remains: Will it stay this way or taper off?

At the onset of COVFF-19 and for the weeks that followed, the housing market was pulverized. However, home purchases increased starting in May and then took off in June. In August, new-home sales approached 1 million for the first time in over a decade.

These record sales are driven by multiple sources, including favorable demographics, historically cheap mortgage rates, and an inflated need for space.
