"Then reality sets in. Your Wi-Fi slows down to a crawl, the new software tools you work with are confusing and your computer mouse is a piece of junk. Without an I.T. department, you are on your own with your tech problems.
"Our most common work-from-home tech issues are the ones that slow down our productivity: unreliable internet connections, low-quality video calls, software programs that are too narrowly tailored and uncomfortable work stations.

A new world is being build around us each day and predictions indicate that 5G or the next generation of mobile technology will generate $13.2 trillion in global sales activity by 2035. Marcus Lu frames it this way:
Data, speed, and increased automation and autonomy will drive economies, manufacturing, and innovation. The impacts are wide-ranging and will affect life in big cities as well as remote rural areas as the technologies become ubiquitous. Explore the infographic by VisualCapitalist and consider the possibilities and opportunities for the future, which is here!
A few weeks ago I participated in a discussion on 5G and it was scary as we discussed the security issues and other technical details of 5G. Much work needs to be completed, but we seem to be on an unalterable path to 5G and beyond. Can we as a species handle it? |

Clearly, there is no single correct answer in the cloud vs. edge assessment in an IoT context. Every situation is unique. What is clear, however, is that a balance between cloud and edge computing will likely make up tomorrow’s IoT architecture.
IoT devices and the data they can provide are changing the world and how we interact. Much of the connected-consumer IoT world resides primarily on the cloud largely because of its copious benefits. However, in most cases an IoT solution will involve some mix of the edge and the cloud. Bringing it to the edge can alleviate latency, boost scalability, and increase access to information so that better, faster decisions can be made, and organizations can become more agile as a result.
While deciding on the right balance of edge and cloud functionality in an IoT solution, it is helpful to keep in mind that edge computing has various configurations, and all can bring their own benefits, but they also can present unique challenges.
Substantial operational complexities and expenses can emerge in in no time, so enterprises should take into consideration a full range of factors while designing and building any given IoT solution. In this article, you'll find many criterias and tips especially to help you to determine when going for edge processing in an IoT solution.

The impacts of COVID-19 may expedite supply chain automation as the world cautiously rebounds from the pandemic. The VisualCapitalist.com provides context for the infographic of the day by Raconteur. It highlights the state of automation across the global supply chain and depicts an snapshot of future investment. Of course, the underlying data may change depending on how the rebound evolves and if there are no other major disruptions and quarantines as the scientists develop vaccines and treatments to mitigate COVID-19.
