Another one? The Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 APO Review – | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it
It seems like every chinese based lens manufacturer is putting out new fast fifty equivalents for APS-C these days. Some have ventured into full frame territory, but most stay within the APS-C segment. Mitakon, TTartisan, 7Artisans and now also Laowa are all the more prominent of the lot. My prefered focal lengths have always been…

A Decade of Precious Memories – Thank You Fuji! by  Philip Sutton

A Decade of Precious Memories – Thank You Fuji! by  Philip Sutton | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it

I have been a photographer now for longer than I care to remember. ...

...

Around 15 years ago healing finally came. ... I eventually ditched the heavy DSLR kit and settled for something much smaller and lighter. By chance or destiny or whatever, I ended up joining the Fuji ‘Club’. ...

...

hpc's insight:

Philip Sutton has been a photographer for over 30 years. Philip uses Fuji gear for quite a time, and excels in documentary, street photography and organised shoots.

A Look at FUJIFILM's Newest Film Simulation: ETERNA Bleach  Bypass  /  Dan Bailey

Fuji's ETERNA Bleach Bypass film simulation offers a unique look by producing a color image that looks very close to black and white. With a dynamic range similar to CLASSIC CHROME, ETERNA Bleach Bypass pulls the color and saturation almost all the way back towards monochrome territory, but retains enough dynamic range to give the shot some additional drama. This style offers a lot of creative options.

Fuji's XF 16mm 1.4 - The Sublime One! by Philip Sutton

Fuji's XF 16mm 1.4 - The Sublime One! by Philip Sutton  | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it

A non scientific review of the Fuji XF 16mm 1.4 lens.

Well – I guess it was inevitable, wasn’t it?  I had heard about ‘it’ for many years.  Photographers raved about ‘it’ saying that ‘it’ was Fuji’s greatest lens.  They said that once you bought ‘it’ you could never put ‘it’ down.  One tester said it was akin to dating the ‘Prom Queen’ – after that you could never go back to the “chick next door”.  I put it off for so many reasons.  ...

hpc's insight:

We all know, having heard it many times, that it is not the gear that makes the photographer. However, this mantra has always left me wondering, to say the least, if it doesn't seem to me to be largely wrong. If it is undeniable that a photographer will always be able to obtain a satisfactory or even striking photograph whatever the gear he has at his disposal in a given situation, it seems to me indeed that nobody can seriously defend that some equipment is not better suited for the job than others in certain situations. If it is undeniable that a photographer with a certain expertise will always be able to obtain a satisfactory or even striking photograph whatever the equipment he has at his disposal, that no one can seriously defend that certain gear is not better than others in certain situations.

The lightness and the small size of the equipment are characteristics whose importance is generally not sufficiently taken in account..

In the same line of thought, switching from a zoom lens to a fixed focal length lens simplifies the choices that the photographer must make.

This seems particularly appropriate for documentary photography.

Lens Adapters or ‘No Name’ Lenses for Your Fujifilm X Cameras? By Take Kayo | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it

As Fujifilm X Series photographers our lens selection is limited to mostly… well, Fujifilm. There are plenty of options within this system, but sometimes there are speciality lenses we want to try, or perhaps we want to experiment with different types of glass. Fortunately, many of us have migrated from other camera systems, and we’ve bought adapters so we can use our legacy lenses on our favourite X Series bodies.[…]
