X-T1 / X-T1 Graphite Silver Edition Camera Body Firmware Update Ver.4.20 | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it

  • 1.Using a flashgun in Bracketing / Continuous shooting
    Optional flashguns can be used for bracketing and burst photography. When using the EF-X8, which is bundled with the X-T1, the flash fires in ISO, FILM SIMULATION and WHITE BALANCE BKT modes.
    *A flashgun may not fire in case it is not charged enough between shootings. And continuous shooting in CL and CH mode becomes slow when Focus mode is AF-C.
  • 2.Instant AF Setting in manual focus
    Focus and exposure can be locked when the AF-L button is used in manual focus mode. You can shoot after locking AF and AE with your thumb.
  • 3.AF+MF operation with AF-L button
    The AF-L button can be used to lock focus in AF+MF mode and you can adjust the focus more accurately using the lens's focusing ring.
  • 4.Focus zoom in AF+MF
    The FOCUS ASSIST button can be used for focus zoom and you can focus using the lens's focusing ring with focus zoom activated.
  • 5.Additional Custom Display options
    Functions have been added to the DISP. CUSTOM SETTING option in the setup menu.

    Additional Items: FOCUS FRAME / CONTINUOUS MODE / SHOOTING MODE / DUAL IS MODE / INFORMATION BACKGROUND / MOVIE MODE / FOCUS MODE / BLUR WARNING / SHUTTER TYPE
  • 6.The Fn7 Button
    The movie-record button doubles as an Fn button (Fn7). Press and hold DISP/BACK to select what it controls.

Crop sensor - Depth of field and aperture equivalent on a full frame: multiply by k

To know what a diaphragm aperture on APSC sensor FUJI X corresponds on 24x36, simply multiply by 1.5, as for the focal length.

So :

- 1.4 X 35mm equivalent in 53mm FF to FF 2.1 for depth of field

- 1.2 X 56mm equivalent in 84mm FF to FF 1.8 for depth of field

It is not at all negligible, since this corresponds to a variation of an aperture full stop and when you consider the price gap between a f1.4 versus a 2.0 or f4.0 zoom compared to f2.8 zoom.

The Fuji XF55/140 f2.8 is more equivalent for this point of view  in  full frame more to a 70/200 F4.0 zoom than  a 70/200 F2.8 zoom
But the luminosity is maintained, which permit to "win" in ISO or speed.

At the risk of simplifying, source Wikipedia:

Dof= = 2 N c D² / f²

with:

Dof: Depth of Field

N: aperturec: value in mm circle of confusion.

D: Distance to the focus plane i.e. distance to the subject

f: focal length in mm

Finding: The sensor size is not involved. We should not be surprised with a "small" sensor it is as if we took the photograph with a full frame and that was cut (crop).

As regards the field of view, the "crop factor" k intervenes directly and for  the focal distance, simplifying again:fk = f / kis f = k fk, the known formula on a FUJI X APSC 35mm behaves like a 50mm 24x36, more precisely as a 53mm = 35 *  1.5.

In terms of the value of the circle of confusion, there recess ck = c / k
So DoFk = 2 N c / k D² / (f / k) ² = k DoF

It follows that for the opening of the diaphragm the DoF equivalent is

N = k  Nk.

ISOless Photography With the Fujifilm X-Series / Rico Pfirstinger – FUJI LOVE

ISOless Photography With the Fujifilm X-Series / Rico Pfirstinger – FUJI LOVE | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it
ISOless sensor technology has been available for several years. Still, many users know little about its benefits, as most camera makers shy away from actively exploiting and marketing such capabilities. This is about to change: Nikon has recently started to embrace ISOless photography with their D750 full-frame DSLR, which features dedicated highlight-priority metering and flat-curve image processing. Lucky for us, all Fujifilm X-series cameras are equipped with ISOless sensors, too, so let’s have a closer look at how to make them work for us.

Fujifilm XT-1 and Pocket Wizards

Fujifilm XT-1 and Pocket Wizards | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it
In my previous post I lamented the fact that for a few dollars more Fuji could have provided a little more to the "pop up" flash that comes with the Fuji XT-1, with swivel, if not more tilt, just to allow some bounced flash for indoor images.

I know they have bigger flashes with all the bells and whistles, but the point I was making was with a smaller camera, why would I want an unbalanced top heavy camera, by adding a bigger flash? I wanted a small lightweight camera. I already have a series of Canon cameras, which if I wanted to I could put a flash in the hotshoe. I wanted a camera that was small and unobtrusive.

Fuji X Buyer’s Guide :: Part 1 :: Cameras

Fuji X Buyer’s Guide :: Part 1 :: Cameras | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it
I have been a Fuji fan boy since the original X100 and, as you can see from the photo above, I have continued to drink the Fuji juice. That’s almost all of my Fuji gear. I have a few things loaned out right now. All I wanted was a small easy to carry camera that had great image quality. I wasn’t looking for a new system. I didn’t need a new system. I just needed that thing in between a point and shoot or cell phone camera and a full fledged DSLR. That’s where the X100 came in. Then Fuji introduced the X-Pro1 and hired me to go shoot with it in India. I still wasn’t looking for a new system. Look at all the shit I have now.

Xtend your Fuji system: All about that Hood

Xtend your Fuji system: All about that Hood | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it
Let’s be honest: next to the ease-of-use of the Fujifilm X cameras, the advantages of their sensor, the performance of the XF glass and the resulting image quality, many X-shooters just love the retro design and handling of the bodies. Right from the start, with the original X100, we got a compact tool to completely enjoy taking pictures. If you’re old enough to have started photography with roll film or 35mm cassettes: just add “again” at the end.

In order to augment the “old days” experience, we’ve been adding leather carrying and wrist straps, half cases, thumb grips, soft releases, old-fashioned cable releases… In the end though, you can’t but ask yourself:

Why didn’t Fujifilm bring us sexier lens hoods?
It started rather well actually. The X100’s fixed 23mm lens comes with a nice metal vented release. That comes handy when using the optical viewfinder, as less of the field of view is obstructed (as long as the openings are well aligned, hence the bayonet mount).

Learning to Love 35mm Lenses

Learning to Love 35mm Lenses | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it

When I started taking pictures the conventional wisdom was to shoot with a 50mm equivalent lens (on a full frame camera or film). I stuck with that for years. It helps that good 50mm lenses are cheaper and have less distortion than other lenses on every camera system I've found2. This makes 50mm a natural place to start.

The World As I See It: Fuji 50-140mm Zoom Field Test

The World As I See It: Fuji 50-140mm Zoom Field Test | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it
I braved the chilly temperature in NYC this afternoon to take the new Fuji 50-140mm f2.8 zoom lens onto the streets to give it a shakedown test. Yes, this lens is bigger and heavier than what a typical Fuji shooter may be accustomed to. I found that the tripod collar, even though it is quite lightweight, was an annoyance. It got in the way of being able to adjust the zoom ring, so off it came. The focus is fast and quiet, and the optical image stabilization (OIS) works quietly and is a great boon for an old guy with less than steady hands. I usually shoot with focal lengths of 10-50mm, so using this lens was an adjustment for me. As fast as the focus is, it just doesn't respond as quickly as a wide angle lens. And I found I have to anticipate shots more than I'm used to.

Best X-Trans RAW Converter

Best X-Trans RAW Converter | Fujifilm X Series APS C sensor camera | Scoop.it
A visual comparison between RAW converters for Fuji’s X-Trans sensor including Aperture, Capture One, Iridient Developer, Lightroom, LightZone, NikSharpener, OnOne, and PhotoNinjaNow that Fuji’s X-Trans sensor has been out on the market for almost 3 years, plenty of RAW converters have arrived on the scene to let Fuji shooters eke the most out of their sensors. Some converters are definitely better than others, but it would require a small fortune, and a lot of time to acquire and test each of them in order to find out which delivers the best results.
