Facebook this morning unveiled a massive new product called “Graph Search” at a press event at its Menlo Park, California headquarters. While the impact of this debut will be settling in for a while, one thing seems clear from an early demo of the product: Thanks to Graph Search, Facebook is about to be much, much better for finding places such as restaurants, cafes, bars and the l

TripAdvisor tests hotel metasearch service – now the fun really begins

TripAdvisor tests hotel metasearch service – now the fun really begins | eTourism Trends and News | Scoop.it

User review giant TripAdvisor is finally doing what pretty much everyone involved in the hotel sector expected it to do years ago – consumer metasearch for its vast portfolio of properties.

The company confirmed this week that it is currently testing “new search functionality” for hotels, covering both desktop and mobile versions of the service.

Randomly selected users have been able to see the new platform in action over the course of the past two months, but there is no time-line as yet when it will be fully deployed and available to rest of the site’s massive user-base.

Functionality mirrors many of the other hotel metasearch services around the web, with availability and prices for properties based on arrival and departure dates, and location.

Automation is on the up and could hold the key to increasing online sales in tourism

Automation is on the up and could hold the key to increasing online sales in tourism | eTourism Trends and News | Scoop.it

With so many channels to track on daily basis, it can be a challenge for hotel companies to know what’s being offered in the multi-channel environment. However, technology has evolved considerably to keep distribution and revenue management executives updated, writes Ritesh Gupta.

In today’s multi-channel environment, hoteliers need to have quick access to hotel-rate data and inventory positions on various sales channels. With online sales bringing increased revenue, hoteliers need to proactively manage their online presence and ensure that room rates and availability accurately reflect the hotel’s current status on all sales channels.

Clock Software's curator insight, September 10, 2014 7:25 AM

Uploading rates and availability and downloading bookings is no longer enough as a Channel Manager functionality. It is not the number of connected channels that matter, but the advanced techniques the software applies to the online distribution, as well as how quick rates and sales restriction can be updated to get maximum revenue at every moment. The CM of Clock PMS is a good example of a Channel Manager with advanced rate and yield management.

However, while OTAs serve an important role in the industry, it’s no secret their relationship with hoteliers is not perfect, said Brian Mullan, a research analyst with Janney Capital Markets in New York.
