After $4M Funding Round, BlockFi Eyes Savings Account, Crypto Credit Cards

Bitcoin Magazine After $4M Funding Round, BlockFi Eyes Savings Account, Crypto Credit Cards BlockFi https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/blockfi-gives-hodlers-another-option-borrow-against-crypto-assets/ , the New York-based startup that provides crypto collateralized loans, has raised additional funds to expand its services. The startup announced that it has received an additional $4 million in its recent funding round in a company blog post . The recently revealed funding round comes some months after the company raised $52.5 million in a round led by Galaxy Digital , including $1.55 million in funding from ConsenSys Ventures and PJC prior. Akuna Capital led today's funding round, with participation from other investors, including Digital Galaxy Ventures, Susquehanna Government Products, Morgan Creek Digital and others. The startup, who recently expanded overseas , says the funding would be used to grow its workforce and launch exciting new products, including a crypto savings account that earns interest and crypto-backed credit cards. Zac Prince, BlockFi CEO, spoke with Bitcoin Magazine, on the funding and the new product lines. He said the company plans to launch two separate credit cards. One would be similar to a prepaid card, where users will be able to spend funds that they receive from taking out a crypto-backed loan from BlockFiҳ platform. ӛThe first] is like a debit or prepaid card where users can receive and spend loan proceeds from BlockFi. The amount they have access to will vary based on the amount of crypto they hold with BlockFi נsimilar to how our loans work now.Ԡ The other would be an unsecured card with a credit line. "Think of it like the Amex card, except that instead of cash back or airline miles נyou would receive Bitcoin rewards," he said. Both cards would be available in selected locations where BlockFi operates, though the firm has yet to choose a credit card company partner. For the savings account, BlockFi would be using Geminiҳ custody solution, which is the solution it uses currently for holding the cryptocurrency collateral for its loans. The company hasn't decided on the exact interest rate, but Prince said it would be higher than the interests that accrue on a traditional bank-held savings account. For Prince, the funding is a testament to BlockFi's growth. Despite a gloomy market that has seen trade volumes drop and prices fall, BlockFi has continued to improve its business on all fronts, he claims. "We have continued to grow all of our core metrics rapidly despite the bear market. We continue to operate with a long-term outlook and thoughtful approach נthat generates confidence and trust from our investors and clients," he remarked enthusiastically. One Day After the Bitcoin Cash Hard Fork: Takeaways and Latest Developments

Bitcoin Magazine One Day After the Bitcoin Cash Hard Fork: Takeaways and Latest Developments Bitcoin Cash, the Ӣig blockԠproject that forked away from the Bitcoin blockchain in August 2017, Ӽa href="https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/when-fork-forks-what-you-need-know-bitcoin-cash-goes-war/">hard forkedԠ(split) into two different coins: ӂitcoin Cash ABCԠ(BCH ABC) and ӂitcoin Cash SVԠ(BCH SV). At the time of writing, the Bitcoin Cash ABC chain has more accumulated proof of work, and its native currency, BCH ABC, is trading higher on (futures) exchanges. Most Bitcoin Cash ABC proponents, therefore, feel victorious נthough many Bitcoin Cash SV proponents have not yet conceded defeat. Well over a day since the split, here are the main takeaways and latest developments. Checkpoint Controversy It turns out that the Bitcoin ABC development team had a trick up its sleeve נand not everyone is happy with that. The developers included an unannounced checkpoint in their latest software release, which was distributed several hours after the fork. The checkpoint enforces inclusion of the first Bitcoin Cash ABC block as a new protocol rule. Any chain without this block is considered invalid by this Bitcoin ABC software client. This has the effect that adversarial miners are unable to override (Ӳe-orgԩ the entire Bitcoin Cash ABC chain נwhich was one of the potential threats posed by a Өash war.Լ/p> The checkpoint is controversial , however, as it implies central control from the Bitcoin ABC development team over the Bitcoin Cash ABC chain. Where nodes usually follow the longest valid proof-of-work chain, a checkpoint is perceived to override this proof-of-work consensus mechanism. Of course, users ultimately decide which software they run and can opt to reject the checkpointed version of Bitcoin ABC. But this opens up the risk of the checkpoint causing another split נthis time, on the Bitcoin Cash ABC chain, creating ӂitcoin Cash ABC CheckpointԠand ӂitcoin Cash ABC Classic.Ԡ(These names are just hypothetical, made up for the purpose of this article.) That said, such a split seems unlikely at the moment. It would have to be caused by a 51%-attack, and according to forkmonitor.info , it would cost around $1 million to pull off at the time of writing this article. Future Attacks While Bitcoin Cash ABC proponents generally seem confident of their Ӷictory,Ԡmany Bitcoin Cash SV proponents are not conceding defeat. For example, nChain chief scientist and the main man behind Bitcoin SV, Craig Steven Wright, tweeted that the Өash warԠis a marathon, not a sprint: implying attacks are still coming. Coingeek and its owner, Calvin Ayre, similarly claim the hash war has only just started. Other Bitcoin Cash SV proponents also anticipate different types of attacks (like a type of spam attack dubbed ӓatoshiҳ Shotgunԩ. All this will eventually obliterate the Bitcoin Cash ABC chain, they say. There is no evidence of these types of attacks coming, perhaps with the exception of Satoshiҳ Shotgun. The Bitcoin Cash network did experience a type of spam attack last week, and there was also much spam on the Bitcoin Cash network around the time of the hard fork. These may have been precursors. It is also true that the status of the Bitcoin Cash ABC network was unusual for the past day, as an excessive amount of hash power was securing it (excessive relative to its respective profitability, which suggests miners were mining at a loss). This was in part because the bitcoin.com pool temporarily diverted its hash power from mining Bitcoin to mining Bitcoin Cash ABC. Over time, it is to be expected that the amount of hash power securing the Bitcoin Cash ABC chain will decrease to normal levels (normal relative to the expected profitability). The Bitcoin Cash ABC network would then also be more susceptible to 51%-attacks. Name and Tickers With Bitcoin Cash split into two different coins, there is some contention around the names of both. What is clear is that the two main software implementations are called ӂitcoin ABCԠand ӂitcoin SV.ԠBut that's only the start of it. So far, Bitcoin Magazine has for the purpose of this article referred to the protocol and blockchain based on the Bitcoin ABC implementation as ӂitcoin Cash ABC,Ԡwhile the protocol and blockchain based on Bitcoin SV has been called ӂitcoin Cash SV.ԠThe respective currency tickers used have been ӂCH ABCԠand ӂCH SV.ԠHowever, not everyone uses these names and tickers. Many Bitcoin Cash ABC supporters in particular instead consider their protocol and blockchain to be ӂitcoin Cash,Ԡand some probably even prefer ӂitcoin.ԠThey also claim the ticker ӂCH.Լ/p> Many Bitcoin Cash SV proponents feel itҳ too soon to rename anything, as they still think there will be only one chain left standing in the end: Bitcoin Cash SV, to be named ӂitcoin CashԠ(or ӂitcoinԩ with the ticker ӂCH.Լ/p> Others have come up with different names and (especially) ticker symbols altogether. These most notably include ӂABԠfor BCH ABC and ӂSVԠfor BCH SV. Some exchanges wonҴ list BCH SV at all. (At least, for now.) For a more complete overview of the different names and tickers, see this article . For more information about yesterdayҳ hard fork, see this article . Thanks to Sjors Provoost for feedback and additional sources. This article was updated with minor corrections. This article originally appeared on Bitcoin Magazine . more info...
