ICT in Primary Education: Transforming children's learning across the curriculum

ICT in Primary Education: Transforming children's learning across the curriculum | eTEL | Scoop.it

Why and how are teachers integrating ICT (Information and Communication Technology) into primary education? In this course we analyse examples from schools in different parts of the world, and bring professional teachers, headteachers and policymakers together to share their best ideas and inspiring stories. The materials in the course are based on studies carried out for the UNESCO Institute of IT in Education, Moscow.

A good point to analize " The importance of all factors in this challenging conjugation of interest". How to make this possible when so many parts are relevant in the learning process. Eager to see how financial, managerial, logistical, organizational and technical elements work together to construct the new paradigm.

[PDF] EDUCAUSE Horizon Report Preview: 2019 Higher Education Edition

[PDF] EDUCAUSE Horizon Report Preview: 2019 Higher Education Edition | eTEL | Scoop.it

Institutions of higher education are actively developing new strategies to rethink how they fulfill their mission. Economic and political pressures have heightened scrutiny of the merit of postsecondary education, especially in light of cost, access, and workforce readiness. Increasingly diverse student populations have added momentum to the attention paid to student success—attention that is frequently focused on low completion rates and high student loan debt. Not only are students more diverse, but a specific aspect of that diversity is the “new majority learner,” who is older, more likely to be balancing work and family with college, and has vastly different needs from those of a traditional-aged student navigating a residential college experience. Institutions of higher education are rethinking how to meet the academic and social needs of all students seeking credentials or degrees. This shift to student-centered learning requires faculty and academic advisors alike to act as guides and facilitators. Approaches to new degree programs, including the rise in new forms of interdisciplinary studies, indicate that institutions are seeking to provide students with experiences that connect disciplines while rethinking how to capitalize on existing resources.

“Higher education leaders and decision makers use the annual Issues, Technologies, and Trends resources to know what's important and where to focus in their IT planning and management activities. The Trend Watch and Strategic Technologies reports are derived from authoritative sources that annually identify emerging and maturing technologies and trends in higher education. The ELI Key Issues in Teaching and Learning list is crowd-sourced by surveying the higher education teaching and learning community to identify the issues and topics most important to them. Abstract

Given the explosive growth of online learning in institutions of higher education, we are in dire need of guidelines for instructing new and continuing online instructors on how best to teach in online spaces.  The purpose of this study was to identify the roles of the online instructor and categorize critical competencies for online teaching based on a review of research, and the perspectives of award-winning online faculty. We interviewed eight award-winning online faculty members from across the United States. Based on interviews, it was found that online instructors were assuming five different roles: Facilitator, Course Designer, Course Delivery, Subject Matter Expert, and Mentor.  Participants’ common tasks when designing and teaching an online course fell in two areas, either Course Design or Teaching. This research has clear implications not only for the literature research base, but for our institutions as well as we continue to offer increasing numbers of effective online courses and programs to our students.

Abstract

Adaptive learning presents educators with a possibility of providing learning opportunities tailored to each student’s individual needs. As such, adaptive learning may contribute to both improving student learning outcomes and increasing student motivation and engagement. In this paper, we present the findings from a pilot of adaptive quizzes in a fully online unit at an Australian higher education provider. Results indicate that adaptive quizzes contribute to student motivation and engagement, and students perceive that adaptive quizzes support their learning. Interestingly, our results reveal that student scores did not increase significantly as a result of the introduction of adaptive quizzes, indicating that students may not be best placed to assess their own learning outcomes. Despite this, we conclude that adaptive quizzes have value to increase student motivation and engagement.

Blended learning  - the mix of traditional and digital learning - is quite popular in the classroom, much more than e-learning.  New studies show that it is also more effective than traditional on site classroom teaching if the right pedagogy is used.
