My Top 5 Lesson Activities using iPad of 2014 - December 2014 Post

My Top 5 Lesson Activities using iPad of 2014 - December 2014 Post | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it

As the year comes to an end I thought I would share some of my favourite iPad activities from this year. It was a difficult decision to narrow it down to five but here goes:

1.Towards the end of last year my school celebrated it's 150 year anniversary and we carried many activities with the pupils that term looking at the history of the school. One of the activities was to compare then and now photos. We use an app called InstaShake HD App https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/instashake-hd/id595411264?mt=8&uo=4&at=11lIT4  to blend two photos together in different ways. We also carried out this activity during the recent World War 1 week at the school.

2. Last term I worked with a PE department to use the iPads to support GCSE students portfolios. One of the activities was to record video of sporting skills from different angles using the iPad's camera and then add the videos into iMovie app to use some of it's features such as split screen, freeze frame and the speed tool. More detail on this can be found here http://sco.lt/8hTUhd   ;

3. Early this term I began an activity with Year 6 pupils to gamify stories using Book Creator App We used the hyperlink tool within Book Creator to link text and images to different pages and give the reader options of where the story went by choosing options within a scenario. More detail can be found here http://www.redjumper.net/blog/2014/12/using-non-linear-stories-gamify-books/

4. In summer term I worked with a Year 3 class to use the time lapse feature in I Can Animate App https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/i-can-animate/id399760501?mt=8&uo=4&at=11lIT4  ; to capture shadows moving across the playground. We set the iPad up to take a photograph every minute from 9am-3pm. Recently Apple have added the time lapse tool into the iOS 8 camera, although you cannot adjust the time between photos like you can in I Can Animate.

5. A few months ago Comic Life 3 App https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/comic-life-3/id891378056?mt=8&uo=4&at=11lIT4  was released and within the many new templates is a newspaper front cover. We used this at school to firstly produce a weekly newspaper for the school news with Year 6 but also during World War 1 week to reproduce historical newspaper front pages of significant events during war.

A big thank you to all the great feedback to Teacher Guide to iPad App. Hearing how much it has helped teachers worldwide has made all the hard work worthwhile. The latest update brings a new icon, new categories of subjects and apps, a new design and 12 new ideas. Details can be found at www.ipadteachers.co.uk

Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and best wishes for 2015!

So we thought we’d start an ongoing collection–that is, one that is updated to reflect trends and changes–of the best resources for teaching with the iPad.

This will include resources from all of the best sources, from Apple’s own stuff to TeachThought to edutopia to MindShift to DMLCentral to Jackie Gerstein and more. We can update it, or make it a wiki to crowdsource the process, or you can add suggestions in the comments below. Based on the activity of the comments, and the sharing of the post, we’ll decide how to handle it moving forward.

`Beginning in our next school year, we are very excited to implement iPads (iPad2 devices) as a tool for collaborative learning in our English and Media faculty. We believe that the technology can enhance our pedagogy, whilst engaging our students in the basics of reading, writing and speaking & listening. We believe that the devices can harness excitement and confidence in our students, unleashing greater creativity and raising literacy standards. By using Apple TV, we will use the devices as a tool for formative assessment, immediately streaming student responses, writing, annotation or presentations and films etc. We are not going for the 1-to-1 model, instead the device will be used as a collaborative tool in groups. A class set will effectively be 7 to 8 iPads.``

Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot

Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it

Passing out iPads to students on the first day of school was like celebrating Christmas (or in this case Hanukkah)  with thirty antsy kids sitting around the tree,  attempting to hide their impatience.  Once the iPads had been handed out, students were instantly excited, engaged and enchanted with the new learning device in their hands. At first, everyone was confused about where to find work, where to save and store their products – and which app to use for what purpose. As with every pilot, these issues worked themselves out and soon classes were running pretty smoothly. Once they all learned what a “hard reset” was we were on our way. After an exciting year chalked full of learning lessons and changes in our learning landscape here are my takeaways:'

iPads + project based learning = limitless possibilities - Daily Genius

iPads + project based learning = limitless possibilities - Daily Genius | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it
Though more than two years into my school’s implementation of project based learning, yesterday, I found myself excited all over again. I was helping a second grade teacher enhance her landforms PBL by using Padlet as part of the KWL process and suddenly realized that this approach to student-centered learning has truly become a part of who we are as a school.

My adventures in combining PBLs and iPads began with a gift of two carts. I had just started taking the PBLU online courses when the head of our independent pre-k through eighth grade school challenged each grade-level team to teach one unit using the PBL approach while finding authentic ways to draw in iPads. As the lower school technology integration person, I immediately went on a quest to find a guinea pig willing to plan and co-teach a PBL unit incorporating iPads. This is the story of that first experience. . .

The Paperless iPad Classroom with the Google Drive App

The Paperless iPad Classroom with the Google Drive App | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it

"Have you read The Paperless Classroom with Google Docs by Eric Curts? http://bit.ly/104vztx ; If not, you should. It is a great way for Google schools to harness the power of Google for sharing documents, and establishing a workflow for students to turn in work for teachers to grade and return in a paperless environment. I love it. In fact, I liked it so much that I decided to pay homage to it with a version that is dedicated to doing the very same thing on the iPad using just the Google Drive app.

Regular readers will have seen my last post, How to Use Comments on the Google Drive iPad app http://bit.ly/14koJzE . For me, this was a key change to the Google Drive iPad app, and one that had huge implications for the iPad classroom. It inspired me to think about just how much you can do in Google with an iPad and the Drive app, and I soon discovered that you can do a lot more than you might think.

So, with the blessing of Eric Curts himself, I sat down and went through all the steps he meticulously outlined for the desktop version of Google Drive, and converted as many as I could to the equivalent actions in the Google Drive iPad app. Then I added some additional steps for other things like taking documents offline, or grading PDFs, images and movies."

"For me, iPad workflow has to do with fluency. It is:

the fluid movement between appsthe unconscious decision what app  to use in order to accomplish any given task

The workflow is almost like Grammar in a language. Grammar helps you put components of a language in the proper order, grammar rules help you use the right tense, remix word to create new meaning, the correct vocabulary words attached in combination with pronouns and conjugation help you communicate exactly what you had intended.

Silvia Resnthal Tolisano (@langwitches) is one of those amazing and inspirational educators I would truly enjoy the opportunity to meet and talk with in person.  One of the biggest attributes I appreciate from Silvia his her open classroom.  She is always sharing student success stories.

Through those stories I start to develop visions of different approaches to use with my college students.  A second aspect that I admire of Silvia is the integration of visual images.  There are numerous images (some may call them mind maps or even infographics) that aide in my understanding of her approach and vision.  The one shared in this post serves as a great example.
