“To really be at the forefront, you also must have state-of-the-art facilities — the best classrooms, the best clinical and teaching centers, the best open spaces in which students can learn, and the best equipment" Further in the article it says they need this to allow students and faculty to educate themselves .... - In my opinion until teaching faculty are trained on the equipment (a slow process) and perceive teaching as important as medicine all the bells and whistles will just generate more noise.

"Unfortunately, the significant changes being made to improve healthcare are not being met by comparable changes in what and how we educate medical and other health professional students. " Lecture-based lessons, little assessment of collaborative efforts, and failure of faculty to learn from educators all contribute to poor learning outcomes. In my opinion, effective teaching is critical.

Nice helpful article about UBC Professor Roland Stull with a reminder that we must all assess the use of technology in a classroom and plan for the implementation. Rushing headlong into adopting something like clickers can be fraught with dangers and interfere with learning. It is best to phase in types of innovation when everything has been tested.

As an aging baby-boomer I want my doctors and health care professions to remember what they learned. As an assessment specialist for a university in a hospital I want to be able to understand the needs of faculty teaching these learners. There are many people who teach medical students who think a grade will do and there is no need to dwell on critical thinking or creative problem solving.
