Famous for its bikes, bridges and pastries, the Danish capital is also a European leader in food policy. Since 2001, the city has developed a food strategy that combines health, taste and climate responsibility. Copenhagen has embarked on a long-term project to improve public meals by ensuring all products are organic and using fewer meat-based products. The city also changed its procurement guidelines and initiated a dialogue with key food supply chain actors.

It has become notable, however, that of these two technologies only solar panels have been deemed suitable and flexible for installation both in the countryside and in cities.

The study also found that solar panels could reduce temperatures while generating energy. Painting London’s roofs white could have saved hundreds of lives during 2018’s record-breakingly hot summer, a new study has found. The average temperature from June through August that year was 19.2C - around 1.6C higher than usual for that time of year.

The Hague has become the first city in the world to pass a law banning advertisements promoting fossil fuel products and climate-busting services. Legislation passed on Thursday spells the end of publicly and privately funded advertising for petrol and diesel, aviation and cruise ships in the streets of the Dutch city, including on billboards and bus shelters. It takes effect from the start of next year.
