Julie’s Bicycle, a leading international NGO that mobilises the arts and culture to act on the climate crisis, has found that governments around the world have failed to adapt their culture policies to reflect the environmental emergency and commitments to the 2015 Paris climate agreement.

In recent research, Julie’s Bicycle set out to understand the contribution that arts and culture makes – and could make — to environmental progress. The research, funded by the British Council, analyses questionnaires and feedback from more than 50 countries as well as interviews with arts leaders

Today, 18 January, the newest grand-scale European Commission initiative was launched at a press conference. We are talking about the New European Bauhaus, which was declared as the continental “renovation wave” in the words of President Ursula von der Leyen back in September 2020 with the aim of giving style, substance and practicality to the Green Deal, which for many people perhaps remains something of an abstract concept.

Les lieux de la participation citoyenne de nos sociétés occidentales sont aujourd’hui quasi inexistants et les espaces mis à disposition, qu’il s’agisse d’hémicycles ou de salles des fêtes, ne sont pas conçus pour que les citoyennes et les citoyens s’y sentent suffisamment bien pour dialoguer dans des conditions optimums. Partant de ce constat, Missions Publiques et Luc Schuiten ont imaginé un espace propice aux débats citoyens apaisés : une installation pratique et adaptée, qui irait à la rencontre des habitant.e.s dans les campagnes et les villes. L’architecte bruxellois s’est inspiré des lieux traditionnels de réunion pour donner vie au projet « une scénographie itinérante d’un débat populaire ».
