New Coursera survey shows high demand for industry microcredentials from students and employers in tight labor market

New Coursera survey shows high demand for industry microcredentials from students and employers in tight labor market | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Coursera is seeing universities and colleges around the world leverage entry-level professional certificates, also known as industry microcredentials, and career-relevant skills training in their degree programs to improve student recruitment and graduate employability.

To better understand this phenomenon, Coursera surveyed over 2,400 students and recent graduates and 1,200 employers across eight countries, including Australia, India, France, Germany, Mexico, Turkey, the UK, and the U.S., in collaboration with the market research firm, Dynata. In each country, we explored the motivations, needs, and challenges of both students pursuing a degree and employers who seek to hire them.

Among other compelling data points, we found that 88% of students and recent graduates said including industry microcredentials, or in this case, entry-level professional certificates, in an academic program would make them more likely to enroll in that program.

Edumorfosis's insight:

Metaverse Schooling: The future of Distance Learning?

Metaverse Schooling: The future of Distance Learning? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

This fall, millions of students across the US are returning to school – and, in accordance with recent trends, many have come back to in-person schooling. But let’s not confuse this for a return to the old pre-pandemic normal. The pandemic has irreversibly changed the way students can access the classroom. As of June, 98% of public schools offered full-time in-person teaching – but also, 33% of public schools offered full-time remote teaching.

These developments mirror similar trends in the workplace, where 33% of all businesses offer a mix of in-person, remote, and hybrid options. In education, the options are no longer simply the in-school experience or a home-schooling experience. We have distance learning – the hybrid model. We can expect distance learning to grow in line with “adult-world” workplace norms. And as we become familiar with this mode of learning, we’ll see a fourth option emerge: school in the metaverse.

The benefits of having High School students learn by teaching

The benefits of having High School students learn by teaching | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Youki Terada powerfully conveys the value of project-based learning in his Edutopia article “New Research Makes a Powerful Case for PBL” when he writes that PBL “fosters a sense of purpose in young learners, pushes them to think critically, and prepares them for modern careers that prize skills like collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity.”

All teachers know that learning never ends, so we’re acutely aware that teachers continuously enter and exit our lives. We spend hours in professional development seminars taught by experts, but sometimes our best teachers are right there in our classrooms. We all know, too, that one of the best demonstrations of mastery of a specific skill is to teach that skill to someone else.

Mixing online studies with on-campus teaching is, narrowly, the favoured learning option among students responding to a major new study

The 2021/22 edition of Jisc’s annual student digital experience insights survey found that 45% preferred blending learning, while almost as many – 42% – would like to study mainly on-site.

Just 13% wanted to be taught mainly online, despite the fact that almost a third (30%) had experienced exactly that for the majority of the 2021/22 academic year.

What is Experiential Education?

What is Experiential Education? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

For many years, I have tried to explain what experiential education (EE) is to my colleagues. In the process, I often found myself bogged down in the technical jargon of my discipline (outdoor and adventure education) as well as the writings of thinkers such as John Dewey. I’m writing here to clarify my own understanding of EE and to present a simple model that can be understood regardless of academic discipline. In doing so, I am hesitant to even use the phrase EE, because I believe it represents sound educational pedagogy no matter what it’s called.

Colleges and universities have flirted with using virtual reality as a teaching tool for years, but until recently, few institutions invested in the technology. The headsets were bulky and expensive, and even with the hardware in hand, creating engaging, effective virtual teaching spaces is costly and requires skilled engineers. This fall, ten universities get a free ticket for entry; as part of its $150 million Meta Immersive Learning project, Meta—Facebook’s parent company—is bringing colleges into their metaverse.

eLearning: An essential training method for Hybrid Workforces

eLearning: An essential training method for Hybrid Workforces | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on the business sector, prompting more and more companies to shift their operations online and forcing people to start working from home. Companies saw a rise in employees’ productivity as working from home became more widespread, which is why many companies adopted a hybrid work schedule even after the lockdown restrictions eased.

The hybrid work model reduces company costs and gives employees more flexibility and a better work-life balance. This is a great work proposition for employees as they save on commuting costs and can meet deadlines more efficiently.

With that said, many employees still struggle with using technology or find it difficult to manage the programming at home. This is where an e-learning management system comes in handy. Read on to learn more.

Implementing Instructional Design: All that there is to know

Implementing Instructional Design: All that there is to know | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The eLearning industry is having quite the moment. No matter how niche, you can find several platforms offering rich and in-depth knowledge on any subject. In fact, choosing the right online course can prove to be difficult when learners have so many options. In the end, it all really comes down to how well a course is structured and delivered, keeping its target audience in mind. And that is what implementing Instructional Design (ID) is all about. It focuses on the process of planning, creating, and delivering a learning experience, all while keeping the overall learning objective in mind. This learner-centric approach helps participants achieve the specific and measurable learning goals that they’ve set out to achieve. Knowing that their specific learning needs are being met, learners are inclined to opt for more content. This is why it’s imperative to develop content in a way that leverages instructional design.

¿Es lo mismo Evaluar que Calificar?

¿Es lo mismo Evaluar que Calificar? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

A call to the next generation of LatAm Education Leaders

A call to the next generation of LatAm Education Leaders | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Over the past few weeks, I had several experiences interacting with young leaders that are preparing to enter the education sector in Latin America, at a time of the most profound crisis that humanity has experienced in education.

As we all know, in 2020, most countries closed schools. We now have enough evidence indicating that school closures resulted in significant learning loss. The negative impact on future employment prospects and potential future earnings is quite relevant.

Edumorfosis's insight:
