Teachers are saying that they could be more effective in the classroom if they had more time to plan and grade students’ work. 45% of teachers feel that the amount of time spent on "unnecessary or bureaucratic" tasks has increased [1]. There are only so many hours in a day. We need to better understand the major factors that can be automated using EdTech so that teachers and students can be more productive in the classroom.

La formación a lo largo de la vida es un concepto que refleja la necesidad de mantener procesos de formación continua a lo largo de la vida profesional, incluso prescindiendo del adjetivo «profesional».

Existen numerosos documentos recientes sobre la materia que dan justificación a esta necesidad. Se proclama en el pilar europeo de los derechos sociales el derecho de las personas a recibir una formación que les permita participar en la sociedad y en los cambios y transiciones de su vida laboral. Se cita en el documento de la UE “Un nuevo modelo de industria para Europa” (2020) que tan solo en los próximos cinco años, ciento veinte millones de europeos tendrán que mejorar sus capacidades o reciclarse profesionalmente, lo que supone una cifra mareante.

In a watershed moment for graduate-level Business Education, more full-time M.B.A. students were enrolled in online programs than residential ones during the 2020–21 academic year. According to data from the Association to Advance Collegiate Business Schools (AACSB), the leading business school accreditation agency, 45,038 students were enrolled in online programs last year, while 43,740 were in person.

The shift to online classes during the pandemic expedited the growth in online MBAs, but trends have been pointing in that direction for years. AACSB data show that the number of accredited business schools offering fully online M.B.A. programs increased by 54 percent between the 2012–13 and 2016–17 academic years, and another 85 percent between then and 2021–22.

As we enter into 4th Industrial Revolution, as described by World Economic Forum founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab, governments must take the lead in changing the way that we see the future of society and the workplace. Companies and institutions will also play a significant role as the employment landscape changes from the one we have grown accustomed to.

The path forward requires certain priorities: first and foremost, to ensure that a fundamental review of the educational system is urgently addressed. Furthermore, technology must be galvanized within the workplace in a way that benefits employees. Employees will need to be shown that Intelligent Automation (IA) implementation creates opportunities and benefits for them personally. Additionally, when IA does affect a job or department, the roles of the affected workers need to be assessed and expanded, which may require further training of those personnel.

Over the past few decades, we've seen a progression in how we learn based on the evolution of computing platforms. In the 80s, if you were curious about something, you looked it up in the encyclopedia and were lucky to get one paragraph and a picture.

 

In the 90s, we started to get our information from the internet via desktop computers. Most recently, mobile devices have given us access to the world from our pockets, allowing us to browse the internet whenever we are curious. The next step in this progression is the addition of immersive technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

A recent Jobs of Tomorrow report stated that there will be an influx of jobs in the areas of artificial intelligence, data analytics and cloud computing. And now, just as we are becoming used to hearing about ​NFT​s, the​ blockchain, ​and ​the metaverse, ​another term enters the conversation: ​W​eb3​. You may be wondering what it​ ​is​.

Well, Web3 is the third iteration of what we know as the internet. Does that mean it’s an improved internet? What difference does this new version make? Simply put, it is the next phase of what we can already do on the internet. As with all technologies, cell phones, Windows and Mac operating systems, there are always new versions and updates to those versions based on emerging technologies and increased functionalities. It is not any different when it comes to the web. I showed my students an overview video that helps to explain Web3 and one that shows differences between the web versions.

In the last week, the Virtual Human Interaction Lab at Stanford University published its recent findings on the measured effects of time on various measures within a collaborative virtual environment, using ENGAGE as its VR platform of choice.

Overall, the results showed that all measures, including self, social, and spatial presence, enjoyment, entitativity, and realism increased over time. This underscores the critical role that time plays in how people’s experience in VR evolves. Given this, it is possible that once participants adapt to the medium and are no longer uncomfortable with the novelty of the technology, they are able to reap the advantages that VR and CVEs provide and feel more presence and connectedness.”

The percentage of male, Latino and Black high school seniors who want to go to college has declined in the last three years.

YouthTruth, a nonprofit, surveyed 22,000 members of the Class of 2022 and compared the results with a similar survey of the Class of 2019, the last high school class to predate the pandemic.

Among the results:

  • The percentage of Latino students who want to go to college dropped from 79 percent to 71 percent.
  • The percentage of Black students who want to go to college dropped from 79 percent to 72 percent.
  • The percentage of all male students who want to go to college dropped from 74 percent to 67 percent.

Lo mismo sucede en Puerto Rico. Hay que inversigar su sucede lo mismo en las universidades latinoamericanas. El fervor por ingresar a la universidad se ha ido perdiendo con el pasar de los años...

Preparar individuos que sean aptos para el mercado laboral es el cometido que está ocupando una mayor presencia en el sistema educativo. En los últimos años, los centros de educación –y particularmente la universidad– parecen estar olvidando su función básica de formar ciudadanos críticos para focalizarse casi en exclusiva en la formación de trabajadores para el futuro mercado laboral. No está claro, sin embargo, cuáles serán estos trabajos, aunque sí las condiciones y el contexto en que concurrirán: resulta bastante evidente la tendencia hacia la precariedad y la desregulación del mercado laboral, para lo cual se va a requerir de individuos cada vez más adaptables, flexibles y resilientes. Estas competencias no son en principio negativas, ya que virtudes como la persistencia, la constancia o el esfuerzo son clave para poder alcanzar cualquier meta relevante en la vida, así como para desarrollarnos en cuanto personas. Cuestión distinta es que lo que acabemos generando sea un patrón de individuo moldeable y adaptable a todo tipo de trabajos temporales, esporádicos y precarios. Esto último sería positivo seguramente para parte del empresariado, pero seguramente no tanto para el conjunto de la sociedad.

Edumorfosis's insight:

El rol primordial de las universidades es el de brindar una diversidad de experiencias de integración social que ayuden a desarrollar capacidades de aprendizaje en cada uno de los estudiantes. De lo que se habla es establecer un balance entre la Educación para la Vida y la Educación para Ganarse la Vida. Las personas que aprenden de una sola manera (la oficial), tomarán decisiones o resolverán desafíos de la misma forma que fueron entrenados en sus clases.

The reason is simple: Augmented Reality will give us superpowers.

We cannot afford to overlook the impact this technology will have on our lives in the near future. One need only consider the billions being spent on the so-called metaverse. Still, I have been involved in this field from the very beginning, and I appreciate the skepticism that surrounds virtual and augmented reality. We lived through a false start in the 1990s, and another in the mid-2010s.

But this time is different.

VR and AR technologies are finally able to offer real-world value. While I can point to many examples, no field of endeavor makes the case more clearly than medicine. Last week I participated as a panelist at the Digital Orthopedics Conference in San Francisco, where a major theme was to imagine the medical field in the 2030s. As part of this effort, a small group of us carefully reviewed the latest research and assessed the potential impact of immersive technologies.

Cuando estábamos en el colegio, jamás olvidamos que el profesor tenía el poder absoluto de poner las notas y aprobar o suspender a los alumnos. Tal vez cuando no exista esa relación, les sea más sencillo conectar con los intereses reales de sus clientes, los estudiantes ( Los aprendices de hoy son diferentes de los estudiantes que era de nuestro sistema creado para educar. Los nuevos aprendices digitales están inmerso en la tecnología y que esperan utilizar herramientas digitales como parte de su experiencia educativa. la investigación basada en el cerebro proporciona evidencia de que la actual generación de estudiantes se “conecta” son de forma diferente que las generaciones anteriores.

Launched officially in January 2020, the Education 4.0 Framework proposes eight transformations within learning content and delivery mechanisms in primary and secondary education systems to better prepare the next generation of talent for the future of work and the future of societies. The Framework, codified in Schools of the Future: Defining New Models of Education for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, also showcases examples of schools, school systems and education programmes that are pioneering the way toward Education 4.0 skills and learning experiences.

 

Over the first half of 2020, the workstream developed the Closing the Education Gap playbook—a guide for governments and businesses to set up country-level public-private collaborations to implement the Education 4.0 framework via four key system interventions: teacher empowerment, new skills measurement mechanisms, new education standards, and mainstreaming technology-enhanced education. The workstream is currently exploring the full integration of this work into the Reskilling Revolution’s Country Accelerators. As of August 2020, using a data-driven approach, a list of 15 potential target countries was selected for the implementation of a future Closing the Education Gap country accelerator model.

 

A high-level “Education 4.0 Coalition”—a community of champions in primary and secondary education that includes heads of international organizations, EdTech leaders, experts, education finance leaders and policymakers—was convened in July 2020. The Community strongly supported the implementation of country-level Closing the Education Gap Accelerators. There was also consensus for the community to be convened on a regular basis to align on the post-COVID-19 recovery in education.

VR platforms like Virbela demonstrate how it is architecturally possible to move beyond the physical domain of a classroom or corporate-training hall to a hyperreal space of learning. While one may argue that Zoom, YouTube and other platforms already provide learning opportunities that are not restricted to physical buildings, the metaverse dives a little deeper by focusing on spatial immersion.

Podemos llamarlo teleformación, formación a distancia, enseñanza online, educación a distancia o eLearning. Todos estos conceptos vienen a significar lo mismo. Enseñar y aprender a través de la tecnología sin que tiempo y espacio sean una barrera. Un tipo de formación que se venía empleando hacía años en el ámbito profesional y en la educación post universitaria pero que se extendió temporalmente a escuelas e institutos como solución para educar a distancia durante la pandemia de COVID-19.

Sea como fuere, el eLearning, lejos de ser una moda pasajera o un parche temporal, es ya un sistema de formación consolidado. Las universidades y centros educativos a distancia están a la orden del día. Y empresas de todo el mundo facilitan a sus empleados la formación a través de eLearning. La pregunta es, ¿qué futuro le depara al eLearning?

VictoryXR, a provider of augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) content for schools and educational institutions, has announced ten “Metaversities” will be launching in the US this fall, with several educational institutions planning to roll out digital twin campuses in order to provide learning options for students in the metaverse..

According to VictoryXR, each school will roll out a digital twin replica campus for students to attend, whether they are on campus or learning remotely. In addition, each student will receive a Quest 2 VR headset for use during the course they are taking. Finally, courses will be synchronous, or multi-student, as if they were attending class on a physical campus.
