Inteligencia Artificial y eLearning: La unión hace la fuerza

Inteligencia Artificial y eLearning: La unión hace la fuerza | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

(Parte II)

La Metaversidad ¿Es posible? (Parte II) | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Graduate Students want to solve wicked problems. Are Universities delivering?

Graduate Students want to solve wicked problems. Are Universities delivering? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Climate change. Social inequality. Civic responsibility. The major concerns of our time are “wicked problems”—complex challenges that lack clear disciplinary boundaries and that require unique, transdisciplinary perspectives to both meaningfully frame and address.

Solving them may require training young scholars to be “wicked students,” to use a phrase from Paul Hanstedt, director of the Washington & Lee University teaching and learning center. Graduate education—with its specialization, close access to faculty members, and opportunities for deep learning—ought to help with this kind of interdisciplinary training. However, it usually doesn’t. Instead, more often than not, graduate education provides depth almost to the systematic exclusion of breadth; developing isolated and disconnected experts rather than those who can meaningfully connect with others and their expertise toward achieving common goals.

[PDF] Strategies to increase participation in Massive Open Online Courses

[PDF] Strategies to increase participation in Massive Open Online Courses | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

In this document we will explain how, over the years, the Inter-American Development Bank has been implementing strategies to encourage Bank audiences to engage in and take advantage of its Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC).

MOOC are very powerful learning tools because they are open courses that, in most cases, can be taken at a students own pace, thus making them ideal for people with busy lives. They also have a broad scope, since they can provide training to thousands of people at the same time at a low cost per participant. However, MOOC also have certain limitations, such as the need for suitable devices; access to high-quality internet; or limited access to certificates, which usually have to be paid for. Another big challenge that we encounter regarding MOOC is that, as they are open and free of charge, a high percentage of registrants who enroll in a course do not take it.

This document analyzes the evolution of engagement indicators, i.e., students commitment to a course. It also measures the success of the IDBs MOOC in maintaining students in courses. Moreover, the document describes the different strategies that we have implemented over time to ensure that people who register for these courses actually take advantage of them. Even though engagement has been a concern throughout the history of the IDBx Program and actions have been taken to maintain participation at stable levels, since 2019, a greater effort has been made to understand the reasons why registrants did not ultimately participate in the courses, so as to devise strategies to mitigate that behavior in our audience.

What is the Metaverse, and how does it relate to Education? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The uses of technology in distance education and online classes and virtual reality, and similar resources for didactic purposes have grown by leaps and bounds due to the health contingencies of the pandemic. The Metaverse is the next step in this sequence of advancements. We will discuss how the Tec Virtual Campus fits into this new dimension of reality on Wednesday, December 8 at 4:00 p.m. (Mexico City time) in our next webinar entitled, "Tec Virtual Campus, Metaverse for Academic Experiences and Student Life". To make the most of the topics covered in this broadcast, we should first be clear about what comprises the Metaverse.

5 emerging technology trends Higher Ed is watching for in 2022

5 emerging technology trends Higher Ed is watching for in 2022 | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

As higher education heads into year two of the pandemic, there will inevitably be some worn-out faculty, staff and students who feel a sentimental longing for the past. Some feel a desire to snap back to pre-pandemic life on campus, while others are excited to rethink the learning and teaching experience with emerging technologies.

The collision of these two groups of users will shape the services that agile IT departments must provide in the new year. But as much as some may want to walk away from videoconferencing, this appears unlikely as the Omicron variant arrives in the U.S.

Regardless of whether the U.S. achieves herd immunity in 2022, Georgetown University professor Bryan Alexander says that hybrid and HyFlex offerings will likely serve as a baseline for many higher education operations in the coming months.

Education Technology: I am NOT a robot | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

I am NOT a robot but a robot took me to school today! Imaginary words from an imaginary student – however, for those unable to attend normal classes on campus this kind of technology represents a very real solution to a very difficult situation.

Access to a telepresence robot has the potential to transform the lives of students. Although Bentley Park College in Queensland is very new to the world of telepresence and is in the early stages of exploring its uses and benefits, we have been so impressed with how easy it has been to use and how well it has been received by students and teachers. As we’ve been gathering feedback data we can, even now, see its wonderful potential for our students.

3 tips for managing HyFlex classroom technology

3 tips for managing HyFlex classroom technology | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

As the COVID-19 pandemic hit during the spring 2020 semester, it sent higher education into triage mode. The first and most important goal was to transition classes online. Most colleges and universities weren’t initially concerned about video or sound quality; they just created piecemeal solutions by grabbing any equipment they could find. A webcam, a microphone and a PowerPoint shared on Zoom was enough to get by.

Now that the dust has settled, universities interested in adopting HyFlex classrooms for the long term should address the technology used in these learning spaces. Here are three tips for creating HyFlex classrooms that will stand the test of time.

Workplace learning trends and the new power skills

Workplace learning trends and the new power skills | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Over the last two decades, the rapid rise of digital technologies has resulted in organizations reevaluating, reengineering and reimagining the way they do business. A recent McKinsey Global Survey has identified that not only has the pandemic sped up the adoption of digital technologies, but it has also rapidly increased the shift to remote or hybrid work models. This has placed new demands on employees who may now require a different set of skills to accommodate how work gets done. Correspondingly, employers have had to find new ways to support the development of these skills in their employees, whilst retaining talent and maintaining a culture of inclusivity and diversity.

Across industries and sectors, it has become increasingly urgent to address skill gaps and learning and development (L&D) professionals now recognise that the most efficient and effective way to upskill or reskill existing employees is through creating a culture of learning in the workplace.

To prepare student for jobs, colleges must also be better workplaces | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The workplace has been upended. The COVID-19 pandemic has called into question many assumptions regarding how and where we work and which elements of the workplace are necessary and effective and for whom. New consideration is being given to the lived experiences and the needs of Black people, of other racial and gender minorities, and of neurodivergent workers in a way that was rare just a short time ago. And workers themselves are making different choices about what constitutes acceptable pay and working conditions, and in so doing, they are shifting the long-standing worker/employer balance of power. The workplace is changing in positive and necessary ways, but it also feels in permanent flux.

Three amazing benefits that could come from the metaverse

Three amazing benefits that could come from the metaverse | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Most of us already spend much of our lives online; 6 hours and 42 minutes per day on average, according to a recent study. But according to Zuckerberg, “The next platform and medium will be even more immersive. An embodied internet where you’re in the experience, not just looking at it. And we call this the Metaverse. And you’re going to be able to do almost anything you can imagine.”

One of the announcements in Zuckerberg’s video was the introduction of the Presence Platform. Andrew ‘Boz’ Bosworth, Head of Facebook Reality Labs, explains that this new technology will give the powers of virtual spatial perception and environmental interaction to users of Meta’s “Quest 2” VR (virtual reality) headsets. Users will be able to handle virtual objects with real hand motions and talk vocally to other people’s avatars as though they’re interacting in real space.
