10 claves para implementar el Modelo Híbrido

10 claves para implementar el Modelo Híbrido | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

ChatGPT y la Educación del futuro | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Learning to teach with ChatGPT is a new and somewhat controversial practice. Much of the conversation in education since the advanced AI chatbot debuted in late 2022 has focused on how to prevent ChatGPT cheating (opens in new tab). However, many educators now teach with ChatGPT and find it a helpful and versatile tool.

Should teachers be allowed to use online tools to monitor student screens? (opinion)

Should teachers be allowed to use online tools to monitor student screens? (opinion) | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

If students are working on laptops, do I check student screens when I’m walking around the classroom? Of course I do! At the same time, though, I’m checking to see how they are doing with their work, if they have any questions, and also asking them how their day is going.

The idea of just sitting at my desk and looking at everyone’s screens on my screen just doesn’t make me feel like I am doing my job (of course, it’s also possible that teachers could walk around looking at their laptop screen). But, monitoring everyone’s screens - whether I’m sitting or walking around - doesn’t seem to me to be conveying a message of trust to my students, either.

In the wake of COVID-19—A time to rethink and reengineer Education Systems

In the wake of COVID-19—A time to rethink and reengineer Education Systems | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The models of learning, teaching, and scholarship that contemporary education systems profess and support are a product of more than a thousand years of acculturation, and not easily displaced. They have, however, become increasingly unfit for the current generation of learners who are not of the same background with similar sorts of aspirations and goals. This is not a time, therefore, to whitewash the inadequacies of conventional campus-based operations, but a time to reimagine a more agile and adaptive learning environment for a clearly different generation of learners and teachers. This is a time to rethink and reengineer institutional choreographies to meet the challenges of this new cohort and to futureproof our education systems for the next generation and the ones after that.

Faculty members still aren’t sure what to make of ChatGPT | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

As anxiety about ChatGPT continues to pervade higher ed, a recent survey suggests that most colleges, departments, and individual faculty members have yet to develop guidelines on how artificial intelligence should — or shouldn’t — be used in the classroom.

Most professors surveyed were also not sure whether educators should encourage students to use ChatGPT, and not sure how they felt about their colleges’ efforts to deal with the consequences of the new technology. That’s a sign of the tool’s novelty: It debuted in November 2022, in the middle of the academic year.

[PDF] Using AI to implement effective teaching strategies in classrooms: Five strategies, including prompts | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

This paper provides guidance for using AI to quickly and easily implement evidence based teaching strategies that instructors can integrate into their teaching. We discuss five teaching strategies that have proven value but are hard to implement in practice due to time and effort constraints. We show how AI can help instructors create material that supports these strategies and improve student learning. The strategies include providing multiple examples and explanations; uncovering and addressing student misconceptions; frequent low-stakes testing; assessing student learning; and distributed practice. The paper provides guidelines for how AI can support each strategy, and discusses both the promises and perils of this approach, arguing that AI may act as a “force multiplier” for instructors if implemented cautiously and thoughtfully in service of evidence-based teaching practices.

Lines blurring between Online and On-Campus students

Lines blurring between Online and On-Campus students | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
Fully online colleges are becoming more of an option for rising college freshmen. In fact, the percentage of high school juniors and seniors planning to attend fully online colleges has doubled since before the pandemic.

After mixed results with remote learning, last fall two-thirds of traditional-aged students were expecting a fully-on campus experience. Additional data from a recent EDUCAUSE survey found that 41% of current students preferred all their courses meet fully or mostly face-to-face. Approximately 29% of students preferred that most or all their courses be online. The key takeaways from the survey were that students chose online courses as it allowed them more flexibility out of school, and those who preferred the campus courses were looking for social connections.

Students want more Workplace Skills from Colleges. Will Higher Ed adjust? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Today’s high school graduates are increasingly questioning whether higher education is worth it, and that’s pushing colleges to rethink the value they bring students.

This was a key theme I heard at last week’s SXSW EDU conference, where several panels addressed what today’s generation of students want, and how colleges can respond. It was also a top-of-mind issue for me coming into the conference.

There is a growing need to reframe computing in classrooms as an inherently social and learned set of skills. The end goal is not to just provide access to digital devices — it’s to develop the skills to use these tools for heightened learning, critical thinking and self-expression.

We suggest that computational thinking — which applies concepts from computer science — provides a framework for pre-K-12 educators to integrate and apply computational methods to solve interdisciplinary, complex and/or everyday problems.

Why doctoral programs should require courses on Pedagogy

Why doctoral programs should require courses on Pedagogy | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Complaints about the lack of attention to teaching in Ph.D. programs are legion — mainly about the perceived disconnect between what we are trained to do in graduate school and what we are expected to do in the college classroom. After years of calls for reform, we wondered, is that disconnect still the case?

Edumorfosis's insight:

[PDF] View of speculative futures on ChatGPT and Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI): A collective reflection from the educational landscape

[PDF] View of speculative futures on ChatGPT and Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI): A collective reflection from the educational landscape | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

While ChatGPT has recently become very popular, AI has a long history and philosophy. This paper intends to explore the promises and pitfalls of the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) AI and potentially future technologies by adopting a speculative methodology. Speculative future narratives with a specific focus on educational contexts are provided in an attempt to identify emerging themes and discuss their implications for education in the 21st century.

Affordances of (using) AI in Education (AIEd) and possible adverse effects are identified and discussed which emerge from the narratives. It is argued that now is the best of times to define human vs AI contribution to education because AI can accomplish more and more educational activities that used to be the prerogative of human educators. Therefore, it is imperative to rethink the respective roles of technology and human educators in education with a future-oriented mindset.

¿Qué son las Microcredenciales?

¿Qué son las Microcredenciales? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Using AI to make teaching easier & more impactful

Using AI to make teaching easier & more impactful | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

I don’t need to start this post with the usual predictions that AI will transform our classrooms. It is obviously happening. Students are cheating with AI. Students are getting help with AI. I have required AI for all my classes this semester, and I hear more instructors are doing the same. GPT-4 tutors are being launched by large organizations (both Khan Academy and Duolingo currently have them). The world is changing fast.

But one thing that is not changing is the best way for people to learn. We have made large advances in recent years in understanding pedagogy - the science of learning. We know some of the most effective techniques for making sure material sticks and that it can be retrieved and used when needed most.

What's next for Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education?

What's next for Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The first thing to emphasise is that AI will never replace teaching staff – nor would we want it to. But it will allow them to spend more time connecting with their students, whether that’s in person or virtually. With a reduction in educators’ workload, their time can be freed up to concentrate on higher-impact tasks, leading to better outcomes and a more fulfilling, effective experience for learners.
