That college degree is no longer the only path to the American Dream... | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

As employers recognize that the lack of a four-year college degree doesn't mean a potential worker doesn't have value, the return on investment for university graduates is dropping. Harris Poll found 51% of U.S. adults say costs have impacted their ability to pursue a post-high school education.

Reimagining Education to transform society and the workplace

Reimagining Education to transform society and the workplace | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

As we enter into 4th Industrial Revolution, as described by World Economic Forum founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab, governments must take the lead in changing the way that we see the future of society and the workplace. Companies and institutions will also play a significant role as the employment landscape changes from the one we have grown accustomed to.

The path forward requires certain priorities: first and foremost, to ensure that a fundamental review of the educational system is urgently addressed. Furthermore, technology must be galvanized within the workplace in a way that benefits employees. Employees will need to be shown that Intelligent Automation (IA) implementation creates opportunities and benefits for them personally. Additionally, when IA does affect a job or department, the roles of the affected workers need to be assessed and expanded, which may require further training of those personnel.

Meta Immersive Learning our story: Learning in the metaverse

Meta Immersive Learning our story: Learning in the metaverse | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

What if learning could become a seamless experience that lets you weave between virtual and physical spaces?

Over the past few decades, we've seen a progression in how we learn based on the evolution of computing platforms. In the 80s, if you were curious about something, you looked it up in the encyclopedia and were lucky to get one paragraph and a picture.

In the 90s, we started to get our information from the internet via desktop computers. Most recently, mobile devices have given us access to the world from our pockets, allowing us to browse the internet whenever we are curious. The next step in this progression is the addition of immersive technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

What Web3 means for the Future of Education

What Web3 means for the Future of Education | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

A recent Jobs of Tomorrow report stated that there will be an influx of jobs in the areas of artificial intelligence, data analytics and cloud computing. And now, just as we are becoming used to hearing about NFTs, the blockchain, and the metaverse, another term enters the conversation: Web3. You may be wondering what it is.

Well, Web3 is the third iteration of what we know as the internet. Does that mean it’s an improved internet? What difference does this new version make? Simply put, it is the next phase of what we can already do on the internet. As with all technologies, cell phones, Windows and Mac operating systems, there are always new versions and updates to those versions based on emerging technologies and increased functionalities. It is not any different when it comes to the web. I showed my students an overview video that helps to explain Web3 and one that shows differences between the web versions.

Total students without degrees on the rise

Total students without degrees on the rise | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The number of students in the United States who have attended college but left before receiving a credential, certificate or degree has risen to 39 million, from 36 million in 2019, according to a new report released Tuesday. Black and Hispanic students continued to make up of disproportionate share of the total number.

The report, “Some College, No Credential,” by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, follows similar reports from the center in 2019 and 2014. The total number of uncredentialed students reported represents an 8.6 percent increase and partly reflects the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the academic outcomes of college students who faced unprecedented financial and personal challenges, including job and income losses and the sickness and deaths of family members.

Edumorfosis's insight:

Future Schooling – Education in the Metaverse

Future Schooling – Education in the Metaverse | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The metaverse is upon us. Soon it will be as omnipresent as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook (now Meta).’ So reads the first line of a new Policy Brief exploring the potential of the metaverse to enhance teaching and learning in the future, and why we need to start planning for it now.

Kathy Hirsh-Pasek and colleagues warn we only need to look at what has happened with the boom in ‘educational’ apps. ‘The lesson learned is that the four-year gap between the time when apps became a dominant activity for young children and when the scientific community became engaged was too long. It allowed for a proliferation of low-quality materials that were rushed to market.’

A new way of showing your leadership cred is here. While a POAP may sound like something vaguely medical, it’s actually a blockchain-based crypto-badge that can attest to where you’ve been, what you know, and who’s in your active network.

You get POAPs by attending events. Collect enough of them and you can unlock bonus privileges and gifts, depending on who issues them.

Edumorfosis's insight:

Virbela ha lanzado una nueva Insignia Criptográfica basada en Blockchain (POAP) que puede dar fe de los eventos a los que has asistido, que sabe quién eres y que estás en su red activa. The future of work is flexible. Will Higher Ed stay stuck in the past?

The future of work is flexible. Will Higher Ed stay stuck in the past? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

The University of Iowa recently released the final report for its Future of Work@Iowa project. The project sought to “reimagine” how and where employees work after the pandemic, with a focus on “understanding the long-term potential for remote and hybrid work, flexible schedules, and other types of work arrangements”—arrangements it collectively calls “flexible work.”

And where did that reimagining take them? To the bold declaration that while “flexible work is not the new norm,” some employees could take advantage of “intermittent flexibility,” such as working remotely for a couple of days while caring for an elderly relative. In other words, the “future of work” at the University of Iowa doesn’t look too different from what prevailed on college campuses before the pandemic. It’s like whomever wrote the report jumped in the DeLorean and set the clock to 2012.

In an era of learning acceleration and learning loss, it can be hard to grant ourselves permission to slow down. But if we’re looking to cultivate learner agency, we must consider the negative effects of accelerating learning—of always asking our students to be “on” in our classrooms. We must ask ourselves: Where does the urgency come from, and how might it be disenfranchising some of my students?

[PDF] Schools of the future: Defining new models of Education for the 4th Industrial Revolution | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Launched officially in January 2020, the Education 4.0 Framework proposes eight transformations within learning content and delivery mechanisms in primary and secondary education systems to better prepare the next generation of talent for the future of work and the future of societies. The Framework, codified in Schools of the Future: Defining New Models of Education for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, also showcases examples of schools, school systems and education programmes that are pioneering the way toward Education 4.0 skills and learning experiences.

Over the first half of 2020, the workstream developed the Closing the Education Gap playbook—a guide for governments and businesses to set up country-level public-private collaborations to implement the Education 4.0 framework via four key system interventions: teacher empowerment, new skills measurement mechanisms, new education standards, and mainstreaming technology-enhanced education. The workstream is currently exploring the full integration of this work into the Reskilling Revolution’s Country Accelerators. As of August 2020, using a data-driven approach, a list of 15 potential target countries was selected for the implementation of a future Closing the Education Gap country accelerator model.

A high-level “Education 4.0 Coalition”—a community of champions in primary and secondary education that includes heads of international organizations, EdTech leaders, experts, education finance leaders and policymakers—was convened in July 2020. The Community strongly supported the implementation of country-level Closing the Education Gap Accelerators. There was also consensus for the community to be convened on a regular basis to align on the post-COVID-19 recovery in education.

Podemos llamarlo teleformación, formación a distancia, enseñanza online, educación a distancia o eLearning.

The Pandemic is changing how Colleges offer tutoring. Will students use it? | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Like many campuses, Missouri State quickly shifted from in-person to online tutoring during the pandemic. And like many campuses, the university is now keeping both options available, since officials found that many students prefer the convenience of online. One challenge, Frizell notes, will be finding funding for both formats going forward.

One model that seems to be working well, says Frizell, is one where a tutor is embedded in a large lecture class, an approach called the “supplemental instruction program”. “If you’ve got this person embedded in the class, they’re going to use her,” Frizell adds. In contrast with having to go to a tutoring center, he explains, “the stigma is gone”.
