Online Learning 2012: Six Issues That Refuse to Die

Online Learning 2012: Six Issues That Refuse to Die | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"As we teeter on the brink of the new year, we’re left with more questions than answers. In a way, that’s a good thing, considering the makeshift nature of technology in higher education. As we sidle into 2012, the same old questions will greet us. They’re about a world that’s rapidly changing and about our ability or inability to change with it. Let’s face it. The cat’s out of the bag, but some of us are still trying to lure it back in."

Revisiting Accountability in Online Learning

Revisiting Accountability in Online Learning | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"While the ease of access for online learning courses makes them indispensable for many students, they’re also an easy place for some students to hide and do the bare minimum just to get by. Without face-to-face instruction and reinforcement to snap them into focus, students can unwittingly lose accountability for their role in the learning process. While it’s hard to spot this and act accordingly in an online learning environment, it’s essential that teachers and professors work hard to cultivate a culture of learner accountability in these courses."

Why Middle Schoolers Thrive in a Self-Paced Classroom

Why Middle Schoolers Thrive in a Self-Paced Classroom | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"When we decided that we’d be giving our sixth-grade students control over their own learning this year, our colleagues told us we were crazy. Middle schoolers, they warned us, are unable to work at their own pace because they lack academic fundamentals, intrinsic motivation and basic time management skills. This is especially true for sixth graders, they said, who are managing a challenging transition to middle school and lack independence."

Why online learning is here to stay

Why online learning is here to stay | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it
Education has become virtual, and educators should accept that online learning is a permanent part of learning in today's economy.
EDTECH@UTRGV's insight:

Although online learning can be more labor and time intensive for faculty, it offers an incredible amount of flexibility. After the COVID-19 crisis settles down and life returns to a new semblance of normal, it will be difficult for some faculty to give up the affordances that teaching online provided.

Creating a Low-Cost, High-Impact Online Learning Program With Heart | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"While many university administrators may look at online learning programs as a cost-cutting measure first and foremost, treating it solely as such does a great disservice to a university’s student populace. Top Edtech Trends for 2020

Top Edtech Trends for 2020 | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"Are you ready to look ahead? Schools will soon be reflecting on what’s been working this year and what’s not. They’ll also begin thinking about their budgets for next year. It’s not too soon to look at what 2020 will bring in edtech trends. Instruction must take into consideration several factors. All students should have equitable access to the curriculum and materials. We must find ways to engage students at deep levels of learning. And finally, we must prepare them to become their personal best."

What Will Schools Do in the Fall? Here Are 4 Possible Scenarios | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"As the current school year comes to a close, looking and functioning nothing like what any of us could have imagined mere months ago, another challenging school year looms ahead. Although nearly every U.S. state has begun, in varying degrees, to reopen businesses and relax lockdown restrictions, there is still little certainty—or consensus—as to what the future of education holds this fall."

Based on what I'm seeing, school districts will adopt multiple strategies.
