The history of space exploration mapped

The history of space exploration mapped | Education technology | Scoop.it

"Humans have dreamed about spaceflights forever but only in the second half of the 20th century were developed rockets that were powerful enough to overcome the force of gravity to reach orbital velocities that could open space to human exploration. The awesome poster called Chart of Cosmic Exploration documents every major space mission starting from the Luna 2 in 1959 to the DSCOVR in 2015. The map traces the trajectories of every orbiter, lander, rover, flyby, and impactor which ever left the Earth’s orbit and successfully completed its mission."

Apple is offering free "Hour of Code" workshops for a full week | The Tech Portal | Education technology | Scoop.it
In a bid to get more people on to the coding bandwagon, Apple has opened registration for coding workshops that are being organized in partnership with Code.org. Between December 5 to December 11, which is also Computer Science Education Week, the company will be holding Hour of Code workshops every day for one full week. The workshops will be held at all of Apple’s around 500 retail stores spread across the world.

The workshop is aimed at kids and other first timers. Along with acquainting them with the basics of computer science, the workshop will also attempt to generate awareness about the swift programming language. Attendants will also be offered an introduction to Swift Playgrounds, which is Apple’s iPad app for learning to code within its ecosystem.

So this list, is somewhat balanced. Not by percentage of representation then it would be like 4 guys and 26 gals (don't do the math - I'm obviously 100?% almost right!) It's just that it seems a little OWG heavy even though these awesome peeps are a lot of  YWG's. WE need more diversity & representation. That's all. [jumps off her soapbox]

Learning How To #Code in EVERY Classroom! By @SamPatue · TeacherCast #hourofcode #makered | Education technology | Scoop.it

"The hour of code school wide challenge of “can we get every student to code for one hour” is a great starting point. This also gets the administration thinking about computer science because they realize they don’t have anyone teaching that.

But if we get brave and kick the challenge up a notch we could change the very fabric of our school culture. You are asking “How do I kick it up a notch?” and “If I kick it up a notch may I still retain the right to subsequently kick out the jams?”

Kick it up a notch by challenging your school to have kids code for an hour in EACH CLASS during CS education week. That is right. get coding happening in EVERY SUBJECT.

You can get started now and check out the huge collection of activities"
