Moodle Plugins Directory: Course dedication

Moodle Plugins Directory: Course dedication | education |

This block allows to see the estimated dedication timeto a Moodle course by the participants of the course.

How dedication time is estimated?

Time is estimated based in the concepts of Session and Session duration applied to Moodle's log entries:

- Click: every time that a user access to a page in Moodle a log entry is stored.

 - Session: set of two or more consecutive clicks in which the elapsed time between every pair of consecutive clicks does not overcome an established maximum time.

- Session duration: elapsed time between the first and the last click of the session.

This block is intended to be used only by teachers, so students aren't going to see it and their dedication time. However, block can be configured to show dedication time to students too.

Teachers can use a tool to analyze dedication time within a course. The tool provides three views:

- Dedication time of the course: calculates total dedication time, mean dedication time and connections per day for each student.

* Dedication time of a group: the same but only for choosed group members.

- Dedication of a student: detalied sessions for a student with start date & time, duration and ip.

The tools have a link to download all data in spreadsheet format. The use is restricted by a capability to teachers and admins only. The table presentation is improved with Twitter Bootstrap styles if current theme inherits from bootstrapbase theme.

Auto Linking in Moodle

Auto Linking in Moodle | education |
Here is a neat and useful but often ignored feature on Moodle, Auto Linking. A feature that has been around on Moodle for a while now but may not be visible or enabled on your server. So What does it do?

Moodle Plugins Directory: Vitero

Moodle Plugins Directory: Vitero | education |

This plugin provides integration between Moodle and a Vitero (Virtual Team Room) server. A Moodle site is linked to a single Vitero account.

When added to a course, a session will be created on the Vitero server.

The course users will be given a direct link to the Vitero conference room at its scheduled time. The student details and role will be synchronised to Vitero. The course administrator will have the choice of rooms (based on availability for the given account).

The module will also update or delete the Vitero session details if done so in Moodle.

Integrating Moodle and Office 365 for Education

Integrating Moodle and Office 365 for Education | education |

We’re continuing to build the list of integration resources that we provide for Moodle, so that schools, TAFEs and universities can integrate their Moodle platforms more securely with the rest of their existing infrastructure. This is a common goal for central IT teams, where they want to ensure their users (both staff and students) are able to move seamlessly between their different systems, and their data isn’t locked into a single platform. For example, rather than having learning resources locked away within their Learning Management System it’s possible to use the content management of SharePoint, and storage space of OneDrive (the new name for SkyDrive), to ensure that users have access even when they are not using Moodle directly, or to provide content management such as version control for staff. In the past I’ve written about the SkyDrive/OneDrive plugin for Moodle and the Moodle kit for Windows Azure.

The latest plugin from Microsoft integrates Moodle with Office 365 and OneDrive. This allows teachers to create courses and assignments in Moodle that can be read, edited, and submitted by students in SharePoint.
