Experts offer advice on convincing faculty members to teach online -- or accepting they won't

Experts offer advice on convincing faculty members to teach online -- or accepting they won't | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it
Some instructors refuse to teach online. Experts weigh in on whether that's OK and how institutions might respond.
Becky Roehrs's insight:

I think it should be up to the instructor how they teach: f2f, hybrid or online.  Some folks can't teach f2f, but unfortunately, they often can't teach well online either. If you're not organized, it will definitely hurt your students even more in an online environment..

But my biggest beef is with training and money. Some institutions don't have the faculty materials or support available and worse, do not offer compensation for course development and maintenance to make it worthwhile...I'm disheartened to see the ever-increasing reliance on online part-time faculty without offering appropriate training, support and compensation.

Part-time faculty deserve so much more. btw: I have a full-time job, and just stopped teaching online part-time since it takes up too much of my personal life to continually maintain my online course (the field is in constant flux) and provide helpful grading and feedback.

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it
With online teaching, the only person to blame is yourself. That is what being objective means in this industry. An objective and reflective practitioner blames only himself or herself. If there is a problem, you need to consider ways to avoid it in the future by changing what you do and say, as well as how you act.
