Prepping for your screencast is the most important and beneficial step to the screencasting process. Ironically, I learned just how true that can be while recording this video.

Closed captioning eLearning courses gives you the power to deliver effective and meaningful learning experiences to those who may be deaf or hearing-impaired.

Here's step-by-step instructions for captioning with YouTube. Here's my tips, for captioning:

  • I write my video scripts in Windows Notepad (to create a txt file),
  • Record my video (using Snagit),
  • Rewrite the script to match the actual video recording,
  • Upload the video to YouTube,
  • Then upload my rewritten script to YouTube. I don't try to edit the uploaded script in YouTube anymore-it's much easier to rewrite it before uploading it!
  • BIG TIP: Don't bother with YouTube's automatically created transcript, it's usually not very good...I delete the "automatic" transcript, so folks don't accidentally find it, so they use mine instead.


YouTube does an excellent job of syncing your captions to your video, if you already have the script written to match what you actually said...
