Algebra Effectiveness in Blended Classes: US Dept of Education study results

Algebra Effectiveness in Blended Classes: US Dept of Education study results | Education and Tech Tools | Scoop.it
Becky Roehrs's insight:

A study, that was financed by the US Department of Education, found that high school students who used an algebra software program created by Carnegie Learning, in addition to face-to-face class time, did better on state standardized math tests-nearly a double increase in performance, compared to traditional, face-to-face high school math classes.

Note: It did take until the second year before any change occurred for the high school students, and the study didn't find any change in math test scores for middle school students, whether they took the blended math class or traditional face-to-face class.

If you want to see the study results, here it is: "Effectiveness of Cognitive Tutor Algebra I at Scale": http://www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/working_papers/WR900/WR984/RAND_WR984.pdf
