10 Pros And Cons Of A Flipped Classroom

10 Pros And Cons Of A Flipped Classroom | E-Learning, Instructional Design, and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
The main goal of a flipped classroom is to enhance student learning and achievement by reversing the traditional model of a classroom, focusing class time on student understanding rather than on lecture. To accomplish this, teachers post short video lectures online for students to view at home prior to the next class session. This allows class time to be devoted to expanding on and mastering the material through collaborative learning exercises, projects, and discussions.

Blended Learning and Student Agency | NextGen Learning

Blended Learning and Student Agency | NextGen Learning | E-Learning, Instructional Design, and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
Student agency is one of the reasons why next gen learning looks and feels different from traditional instructional practices.

Despite the best of intentions, whole group instruction that is teacher-centered or curriculum-centered tends to ignore the agency of individual students to own their learning and direct their own path through it. When student agency is embraced, the instructional model shifts to a student-centered learning model.
Dennis T OConnor's insight:

I like the term used in this article: "student agency".  I see it as self directed learning a dispostion that fuels well designed online learning experiences.  This blended learaning oriented piece shows the (chaotic and essential ) way to educating kids as learners in a 21st century environment.

Great Teachers' Academy

Great Teachers' Academy | E-Learning, Instructional Design, and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

"Our mission is to enable great teachers to do what they do best: empower students through education... Great Teachers’ Academy is a hybrid school with a network of micro-campuses. Each campus is led by a highly effective teacher and serves an 80-student population.

Great Teachers’ Academy was founded by a team of educators that believe every child deserves a great teacher. We started our journey by asking a simple question: can we lower the cost of education while personalizing the experience? The answer: yes...yes we can. By shedding unnecessary overhead and placing low-cost technology and effective digital curricula in the hands of highly effective teachers, we can lower per student cost to $3,800 for a 225-day school year."

Maggie Rouman's insight:

Wow. This is a game changer. Personalized learning at its best. If you're interested in creating your own hybrid (blended learning) school, then apply to Great Teachers' Academy. They provide the support and framework. The future of learning?

Blended Course Design Workbook: A practical guide

Blended Course Design Workbook: A practical guide | E-Learning, Instructional Design, and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
Blended (also called hybrid) classrooms, in which face-to-face interaction is intentionally combined with online activities to aid student learning, are becoming more and more common. By moving content delivery such as lecture to outside-of-class homework using technology tools such as video or lecture capture, more time can be gained for active learning in-class. Moreover, the blended model is proving to be an environment that provides more self-directed, technology-mediated learning experiences for students who will be incorporating technology more and more into their professional lives post-college.

Common Sense Media Review: Flipgrid

Common Sense Media Review: Flipgrid | E-Learning, Instructional Design, and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create grids of short discussion-style questions that students respond to through recorded videos. You can create up to four grids with a Flipgrid account. Grids can be classes, sections, groups of students, research groups, faculty groups, or any collection of users interested in a common strand of questions. Each grid can hold an unlimited number of questions, and each question can hold an unlimited number of responses. Questions are short, text-based prompts (think Twitter) that can include basic formatting (such as bold, italic) and links to websites or documents.
Dennis T OConnor's insight:

I've always been an early adopter of teaching technologies.  This one is tempting indeed. This review looks at Flipgrid for use in Grades 6-12.    I can see it working at a graduate level.
