I am (admittedly) a HUGE fan of writing prompts. They aren't just for school, either. They are wonderful "teasers" for dinner-table conversation, too.

This post provides a number of strategies that may help you receive better feedback from your students. The author, Jane Healey, suggests that you formulate "inquiries specific to a task." She has had students write an exemplary comment about another student (receiving "fabulous point-of-view descriptions") and then have the student write one for themselves. Additional questions you might ask are also provided for research projects and class discussions.
