Joy Gresham's curator insight,

This may be a reality and soon. I work in this industry and we are expecting to have plexiglass installed in front of the registers soon. I'm not sure we will ever have the guest order from a touch screen, but it may come to that.
However, I'm not sure this isn't too far off the path we were headed down anyway. At least for my restaurant, the push is always to have less people in our dining room. The Drive Thru is where its at: it's more efficient, faster and in the long run costs less per guest. The other protocols are just a part of doing business in the new normal.

The first McDonald restaurant was started in 1948 by brothers Maurice (Mac) and Richard McDonald in San Bernardina California. They bought appliances for their small burger restaurant from salesman Ray Kroc who was intrigued by their need for eight malts and shake mixers. McDonald's is testing a prototype for dining in a pandemic. Every customer has to wash their hands for 20 seconds before entering. During a pandemic, drive-through and delivery are increasingly the choices of many.
