Thanks to Marcellus Shale, the Pittsburgh area is experiencing steady job growth. The outlook for future job growth continues to look promising for Pittsburgh as the oil and gas industry and its related industries create openings for skilled technicians and professionals.Federal statistics and reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statisticsshow that the job growth in the oil and gas industry has increased by 40 percent, and looks to keep growing.

When people think of criminal justice careers, many of the standard job solutions come to mind—police officer, deputy sheriff, detective, FBI, criminal investigator, etc. What many don’t consider is the alternate criminal justice career options outside of law enforcement that are available to those pursuing a career in criminal justice.

Throughout the Northeast, including around the Pittsburgh area, Marcellus Shale has created thousands of jobs in the natural gas industry. These new opportunities have opened up careers in the fields of welding and pipefitting, HVAC, construction and building technology, CAD design, electronics, and more. With the life of wells, estimated to last 40-50 years, these jobs could mean life-long careers for many entering the workforce in these areas.

When people think of online education, they typically associate it with working adults or stay-at-home students. However, the truth is that there is a growing number of students who are taking advantage of their college’s online programs, regardless of age, occupation, location or mobility.

The US population is an aging society, which underscores the demand for professionals in the healthcare industry. By the year 2030, the over-65 population is expected to triple. Six out of ten baby boomers will manage more than one chronic health condition. And forecasts predict there will be eight times more knee replacements performed by 2030 than today. This illustrates the increasing demand for qualified healthcare professionals such as patient care technicians, medical assistants, therapeutic massage practitioners, surgical technologists, LPNs, RNs, and other medical personnel to answer the need for more procedures and more treatments for a growing segment of our population.

Some people were born in the kitchen; others only visit it when it’s time to eat. Whether you’re pursuing a culinary arts education or just trying to survive in your kitchen, everyone should have basic cooking knowledge. And “I can make cereal” doesn’t count.

Technology has brought about changes in a number of industries, particularly in the field of drafting. Beginning in the 1980's, as offices became more computerized, the concept of computer aided drafting became reality.

So I have to admit that I had often thought about what I would write in my last blog, and now that it is here my mind shifts to other topics.
