So first things first, Minecraft can be effective regardless of how it’s being used. Even as a tool for creativity, it’s empowering, adds a spatial and immersive element without equal, and most of all it’s already connected and engaging for kids simply because of the popularity. But, as with everything there are levels of quality and effectiveness, much like in the entertainment industry where we have Hollywood all the way down to the lower-budget productions. Each tells beautiful stories, and each is effective, but we know where the hits generally come from. So it is with Minecraft in education. Looking at 3 levels of use for Minecraft, the last blog discussed them as Gamification, a Creative Tool, and the Game-based Learning.
